New owner and some help please!
Hi all
Just picked up a 57 plate Disco 3 GS. 100k miles, 11 services in the book, all electrics work, no warning lights, and cam belt done. I replaced the grill already, black badge on the way. All good so far.
My primary concern is the chain tensioner,/oil pump. I have no idea if this has been done or not. The dealer replaced the front belt before sale (I have receipts) as he said he couldn't be sure if it had been done or not. He knew nothing of oil pump issues however, although he did say that once they changed it they found it had already been replaced before at some point.
So I have some questions:
- Should I urgently get the pump changed?
- Anyway to know if the pump has been replaced before taking half the engine apart?
- Some cosmetic issues - any recommendations:
- Small scratches on outside
- Interior door plastic trim (see photos) - this is hard plastic, so I am thinking a hot knife and just push it back down? I'd have to be careful it was not too hot.
- Drivers seat has a couple of rips (leather)
- Door handles faded, anything to restore the colour? T-cut bumper restore?
- Anything else I should urgently check?
Thanks!
Hal.

I would get the belt cover off and inspect the pump if you cant do it yourself it would be worth paying a garage and hours labour to check. If you need to replace the pump you ideally will need to replace the belt again. Did the garage do the rear belt?

Hi Hal, when I bought mine I had hardly any service history with it so I took it to an Indy for an oil change, all the filters and a good look over to see if the cam belt had been done. He told me it had but was running on the old style oil pump and recommended changing it, he said it could run forever on it but he will only do a cam belt if the pump is the modified type. After reading horror stories on this forum I had it changed for peace of mind, we’ll worth doing in my opinion. Nice looking disco tho. Hope that helps and makes sense. Regards Lee
