And a fine one to uphold too ! No worries, I did not take any offence...
And as you said, it is a tradition in Europe... Now, the question is : Is England in Europe ? I do have my doubts but...

I consider us to be a little Island off the coast of Europe...
We used to own the known world of course and then got booted out of most countries but our government still considers themselves important.
Of course we get on with the US as Bliar likes to suck up to him and let them use our country as a floating weapons platform and airfield... the French managed to keep them out !

I consider ourselves as a little island off the coast of America, frankly.
And, as an (admittedly ex-pat) Scot, I don't even want to start on the whole Union business. Discovery 3 tdv6 7 seat Buckingham Blue
Had it since new - sold Jun 17 after 12 years and 214,000 miles

Having worked with a lot of jock expats, why is it that they 'all belong te scotland' but leave at the first opportunity
as far as being the 51st state.... well it makes sense - sort of, compared to brussels anyway, just don't get me started on the down sides.....

Now, I knew that it would be fun to watch...
All that is missing are some scotts, welsh and my favourite irish to add a little bit to the "mix" and it would be great !
And, of course, there is no need to start on with the corsican, the brittons, the "cht'i" (Those are the people from northern France), the alsatian, and so on and so forth... That would be considered rude ! 8)

Norway ? Now that is a new twist that I did not knew ! I would have add Ireland and bit of Spain (Galice...) myself...
I do consider that I belong to this group even though I was a long way off from those places...
