New Battery and new Limp Mode.. Ideas?

So the Truck has been struggling to start and I had to jump it off this morning. Very nice passer by helped.

Got the battery tested and for sure the battery needed replacing.

I bought a new battery and fitted. Car cranks over nice and quick, and ran fine. Went to get my daughter and when I picked her up it went into limp mode. Couldn’t go over 50.

Stopped at the shop and took the battery terminal off and on again and the disco ran fine again.

Is this something to worry about? I pushed the battery breather pipe onto the battery. Do I need to open the hole up on a new battery first? Would this be the problem?

Cheers

Matt

What did you use to jump start the car?

Hopefully not jump leads from the good Samaritans car as this can cause damage! A booster pack is all that should ever be used to jump these vehicles or any modern vehicle due to the sensitive electronics. That said, you may have got away with it but either way the breather pipe won't be causing your problem.

The D4 has a battery management system, and "normally" when a new battery is fitted the module needs to be updated via diagnostics. You should have it checked out by a reputable independent LR specialist, and ask them to read any fault codes logged and go from there. Thumbs Up

Battery

Oooops. Yeh it was from another car with my jump leads. Looks like I’ll be buying a jump pack.

I’ll pop to the ID specialist today and get the the codes read/battery coded. I think it’s time to buy a Code reader.

Thanks for the reply.

If you have time, you can hook up jump cables and use the other car to charge your battery. It’s very slow but it saves the power spike and I’ve done this a few times on diesels where my jumper cables have not been man enough.

Going to charge this old battery and keep it just in case I need to jump again. There hasn’t been any more limp mode problems today and Iv been all over in it. Lots of stop starts.

Hopefully all is good

Run diagnostics on it anyway, or better still buy your own GAP IID and do it yourself. You can then update BMS and much more. Thumbs Up
