MY2012 Discovery Warranty |
|
I have been trying to buy a new Discovery HSE from the UK and importing it into NZ, Land Rover UK consider this a Grey Import so will not honour any Warranty and has instructed the Dealer not to sell one to me although I have another Dealer that can.
The saving between the UK and NZ is about 15,000 pounds for the equivalent spec, have tried to buy a Mechanical Warranty in NZ but have been turned down on the basis that Land Rover vehicles have an exceptionally high claim rate.
What do you guys think about taking a chance on not having a Warranty at all?
How far would 15,000 pounds worth of trouble go in keeping one afloat?
Very interested in your opinions.
Cheers Patrick

Friend did that with a Toureg and saved a lot. Don't know if there was a warranty issue though. £15k would buy a lot of repairs and over 3 years unless you are unlucky with Engine/gearbox you would probably be in profit. Remember though the loss you will make if you ever sell it as a grey will not hold value the same as a NZ registered car. Over the piece, you would likely be even but have the worry of 'what if' or of it being commandeeered by Somali pirates.

Seeing as their is such a saving to you, I would be inclined to spend a few hundred dollars for some legal advice. My question would be.
"Should the LR Representative in NZ a.k.a. The Dealer, refuse to fix a fault under warranty. What are my chances of succeeding in a small claims action against them for the cost of the repair."
Based on what he tells you, and I would hope he would advise you have a valid cause of action, you can make a decision.

Good point about the Small Claims - I phoned up Land Rover NZ and they have told me that the Global Warranty only really applies to Europe, whoever wrote the Owners hand Book did not think someone would take them seriously.......Is there a "Bush Lawyer" out there that can look in the Owners Manual and give me an opinion on how Global is Global? I have to buy a car to get one!
What about reliability of the latest one???????
What are the chances of a Transmission failing? Any one heard of it?
