Indeed was taken back by such kindness and has been such a pleasure being able to help wherever I could to anyone , of course its all down to the kindness and help ive received here by such kind members here to which im eternally grateful for
Have soaked the rust areas with fertan rust convertor to try and hold it back or slow the rust down as much as I can ans will of course take plenty of pics to share with everyone as at the end of the day hope it helps others as the sill issues seem to pop up more and more and time goes by
Great at least the chassis is solid so at least the dinitrol has helped
Thks again and will of course in the mean time continue to help as much as I can , learnt if the best here
Massive respect and looking forward to next year in order I can get it back on the road

Worth taking a look at the bilt hamber products, everything I've used of theirs has been excellent and good value for money.
Side steps seem to be a common theme of rust issues, was fortunate that my 3 was good and the 4 I now have had only just been treated and still had it's sill covers off when I viewed it. I guess the lesson is if you haven't checked do so now and if you have it's probably worth popping the covers or sliders off every 6 months and giving the protection a top up as needed.
My tactic is to seek out the mid spec models with no steps and no sunroofs, no rear ac etc. All the important nice bits but a few less potential issues in theory.....
You've given lots, great to see those that are able in the community being able to give back.

See the are rubber grommets in the side of the sills so at least ideal for an endoscope camera to check, funny enough have one that attaches to my Autel mx808
Indeed at least this thread and others are a good heads up about checking t the sills to ensure rust hasn’t started to spread and can stop it in its tracks saving a good 2-3k in repairs
Will indeed update this thread with pics as soon as I start stripping it off, really hope the soaking of the sill with fertan will slow the rush issue
Overwhelmed by such kindness of having access to a workshop along with all the labour being foc along with saving me a fortune , also he’s done plenty brake line replacements so that’s another bonus
Have a brand new car creeper so that will be ideal for this kind of job
Alas don’t know how expensive it will be to get my D3 transported , still that’s a small issue to deal with at the time
Million thks once again and so grateful for the help as I’m so extremly grateful and items bookmarked for when I need them

Wonder tools wise I wonder if one of these cut off tools would be useful plse, as could set the depth and then just cut full length
Along with some of the thin chisels that go in between the panels , already have flapper sanding discs and thin cutting discs , plus the long neck sander/ grinder
Don’t know if the spot weld drills are better or the hole saw types plse , do have some marcher attachments that can blast out any junk to make the area clean
Sorry with me waffling as per usual , just trying to think ahead so to speak

I prefer the non holesaw variant of spot weld drill bit.
A finger or power file is quite a handy edition when doing the job.
In terms of rust converter I’ve used both the box Bilt Hamber gel and also the Dinitrol one, I’ve found they both perform well in the applications I’ve been using them although the Dinitrol is a little less of a faff to use as it doesn’t need rinsing off.

Their customer service is also good if you need any advice. I pretty much exclusively used their cleaning products now. They do seem to test what they sell quite extensively, the wd40 type stuff is good too.
As for transport there is a company that floats around Instagram called Bigfoot transport that has got a following off the back of the AutoAlex YouTube channel. He uses and L322 and a trailer and apparently is fairly priced. Has it got to travel far?

Shame I wasn’t aware of the rubber grommets behind the sill panels to spray in there when I was doing the dinitrol on the chassis etc , alas live and learn
Will at least be handy getting a camera in there and check them every so often after it’s all done
Wondered that about my file sander, hopefully will be handy to grind away some of the spot welds and then use the drills
