Seems as though it was on a trailer being pulled by a D5?

I wonder what motor insurance companies say when a motorist enters fords willingly which are in flood/high water level conditions?

That's a good point. The insurance companies usually expect you to take reasonable care of the insured item. I wouldn't expect a pay out if I left my keys in the car and I've had to gain specific authority to leave the windows ajar while the dogs in the car. Why should driving a car into crazy deep (or unknown deep) water be any different?

Especially when the alternative safe route via the tarmac is adjacent and almost parallel, not to mention the clearly marked water depth posts!

Making assumptions of course, but reckon there may have been a element of showing off.
D5 got in too deep for comfort, then trailer with D2 on back jack-knifed during panicked reversing attempts?

Well looking at depth marker it currently isn't that deep 2-3 feet which is well within the capability of a D5 or D3/4
I would guess the current was a little strong causing it to jack knife
