Hi,
after 6,5 years properly working, my rear camera suddenly changed to the mirrored image without yellow lines.
Is there any other solution than buying a new rear camera?

As already mentioned, this was a known issue on early model D4s and there was a technical bulletin for this, take ito the dealers, you may be lucky to still get it fixed under warranty condition - but don't count on it LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

... I know this very good and I am giving this information since 2010 to my LR friends in the german forums.
But now nearly all cars with this fault are out of warranty and the dealers are simply changing the camera for lots of money.
All threads and solutions I found in different LR forums where only: There is a bulletin, the camera has to be changed. I hope that now since time has gone by someone has found a solution to repair the cam or change it to an aftermarket cam...
Does anyone has an idea?
Greetings

Hi,
as written before, my rear / backup camera had the known error. I didn't want to invest around 700 € for a new original camera from LR and decided to search for a cheaper replacement.
And that was successful - in short written steps:
- camera from eBay for 18 € as replacement for number plate light at tailgate
- Fakra to RCA/cinch cable for 10 €, Fakra must have a blue/female connector, the RCA plug must be female
- instead of a normal RCA cable: a RCA to RCA (male/male) plug
- everything can be installed direktly in the tailgate module above the number plate
- remove tailgate cover (only around 11 clips and 1 screw)
- remove tailgate opener module (7 screws), unplug video Fakra cable and other plug
- see my flickr album with the modifications
Result:
A new rear camera with exactly the same functionality like the original one for around 30-35 €.
