Can't seem to find a definitive answer to my question despite delving deep into the the search! (I'm sure someone will prove me wrong )
Looking at purchasing a 2015 Disco 4 with 29K which qualifies for the LR 2 year approved warranty. I'm intending on "pre-ordering" the Warranty Direct to start after this ends so I lock in at the cheaper price
My question is does the LR approved warranty cover the dreaded crankshaft failure or is it subject to the same extended warranty caveat of being a "recall" and therefore not covered?
I've spoken to the dealer and they seem to think it does, but who do I trust more!!?
Cheers

Good plan - I’ll see what I can do. Hopefully get a nice chunk knocked off and that’ll pay for the WD one.

Two years full cover with WD is less than that and covers much more.

Oh but you do get LR assist with the approved used warranty and they send you the clueless unwilling AA! Discovery commercial tdv6 auto 2013

All noted - will see if they'll bin the warranty and knock a decent amount off the price. If not there's plenty of others from non-LR dealers to try and haggle on and get some extras chucked in.
Have done a quote for WD and can get substantially better cover over 3 years for far less than the alleged £2K (though I suspect this is probably a lot lower!!).
Thanks all for the helpful replies - great forum!

Just be careful with WD.
They don’t cover anything that is used “off road” Still lurking, although moved to the dark side: disco5.co.uk

If future proofing yourself, worth thinking that late 65 plate onwards are Euro6.

Just a quick update. We have managed to source a suitable car and pick it up next week.
The dealer (independent) was going to flog us a warranty for 3 years. Tried to tell me that they (the dealership) have the last word on warranty claims and not the warrant company who turned out to be Car Care Plan (same as the LR approved).
Armed with all the details from here I insisted he contact them about the crankcase issue - which he said wouldn’t be an issue. Reply from Car Care confirms that they would not cover it. Saved myself a worthless warranty all thanks to this forum!
Cheers all

Well done.
I use WD, but as above be aware that "off-road" use invalidates their cover.
I have specific clearance for BOATs, as I live on one, although I would argue that they are roads.
I also have clearance for estate roads, so that when I visit Sandringham & Balmoral this does not invalidate the cover
