Warranty Direct Betterment |
|
I'm about to take out a 3 year warranty on my 16MY D4 as the LR warranty expires. I've read through a few posts on here about removing the betterment clause? I can't seem to find anything else about it, what is it?
Is there also a trick to getting a deal or is £1689 the best deal I'll get?

Betterment was a contribution to repairs that is no longer in their new policies. You get to select your own % contribution to repairs instead and you’re charged accordingly.
The trick used to be to ask for an online quote and make sure that you’ve given them authority to contact you. You’d then get a succession of phone calls with ever better offers as the deadline approaches. Not sure if this is still the case since they were taken over by BNP.
If they do phone you, it might be worth asking them about their current policy on fitting used parts (such as used engines) and what happens to their cover if you ever take your Land Rover “off road”. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: 2 x FL2 as “second” cars 🙄
2021 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200
2022 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200 & sidecar!

I have had a phone call but exactly the same price as online. Thank you for clearing up the betterment clause, I have slid that to zero.

You don't need to ask them about what happens to their cover if you ever take your Land Rover “off road”.

I'm about to need the same... I guess the last of the D4s will all be coming out of warranty soon
Have you tried other warranty providers? Which level of cover did you go for, e.g. Core, Core Plus etc?
Does WD cover a crank failure (that's the $64k question...)? MY16 D4 Graphite in Loire Blue

WD told me that they do cover crank under CORE element of policy.
They are not currently offering any discounts that practice has dried up.
However, you can get £54.49 cashback from TopCashback at the moment.
Anyone about to order WD then PM me first and I can invite you to TopCashback and you will get an additional £5 MasterCard if you join from an existing member referral.

Sounds about what I paid last year with 36k on the clock. Last of the D4 HSE...

Sounds about right. I took a 3yr last June in the same circumstances. Cost was £1430 ish with 24,000 miles. The price seems to be very mileage dependent. That was for every option and £50 excess which seemed to be a sweet spot in the pricing when I played around with options.
I read about haggling and getting betterment removed before I started the process but there is no option of doing this now, and all references to betterment have been removed from their policy. God knows what it will cost to renew in 2021.
It does give you some peace of mind. Gary

I went for everything ticked and £50 excess as above. Everything covered including wear and tear. Peace of mind given that the LR warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on. Plus £50 odd quid cashback too with quidco.
