how long do you pre-heat for?

Most days I only have a 20 minute drive to work (I think this is not relevant to my question!). How long should I preheat car in the morning to be efficient on the fbh burning fuel versus the benefits of running it in the first place? I suspect outside temperature is a variable to be considered.

It really doesn’t use much fuel, so run it for 30minutes to get the temp up so the engine can benefit from a warm start.

30 mins on mine, I might try 40 mins as I reckon it will be just that little bit better.
Iirc they burn 1/2 litre per hour at full chat, so 30 mins will cost you 1/4 of a litre roughly 33p, well worth it.

I forgot to say the heater makers recommend a minimum run time of 30 mins to keep the thing clean and running well.
Think eberspacher say the same on their version.

Thanks for that gents. That's doesn't sound like bad value at all, especially if you get a bit of fuel economy paid back with a warmer engine while driving. Not to mention reduced wear etc.

Anybody know what kind of impact it has on the battery running for 30 mins?

If you’re driving 2miles a day, it will gradually drop it. If you’re driving 1/2hr I’d have thought it would be fine. Thumbs Up

Make a habit of plugging the Ctek in once a week in winter if you can, won't do any harm Thumbs Up
