Land Rover Button

I had a strange experience with my Land Rover button recently. I always have it programmed to trigger the headlamps follow me home feature, but a couple of weeks ago, it suddenly started operating the tailgate! Yes, when I pressed it, the upper tailgate opened! I know what you're thinking, that's not even one of the features that you can program it to, but I kid you not, that is what it was doing. I had to reprogram it to the headlamps to get it to stop doing it, so it wasn't just an odd glitch, it was permanently set to the tailgate.

Why would that be? What could I have done to cause that Question

There have been quite a few people who its happend too ..if you press the lock/ unlock button while holding the LR button it will program it .

Hmm. That's interesting. I wonder why they don't have a mention of that in the handbook then? After all it's another feature option.

Thanks Wiggs. I knew you'd know the answer.

Easier way to set the LR button to open the tailgate is to turn off the ignition, remove the key, walk to the back door, hold the LR button whilst opening the tailgate and that's it; programmed. Mine does this from my pocket sometimes if the other bunch of keys is pressing against the LR button.

It's an undocumented feature. Nothing about it in the D3 owners hand book but checking my better halfs RRS handbook....there it is... in black and white along with the other options for the landorver button that we have

never really use the button, but yes mine is set to the tail gate opening too

could never understand why some of the features would be practical

Fleagle, it's somewhere around page 52 in the 08 handbook. Look in the index under "programming the keys".

If you want lights to come on with the LR button, press and hold the button (keys out of ignition). While holding button, flash the headlamps and you'll hear a chime. Now release the button. Each time you press that the "get you home" lights will come on.
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I knew about the other programmable functions just not the boot. I'll have another look though in case I missed it. - fairly certain I didnt though.

Wish I could hook the button up to an ejector seat.....that would be very cool and very handy sometimes Whistle

Stupid question, but when you say tailgate opens, do you mean unlocks or pops open Question
Cos I just tried to programme mine & it just unlocked to the 1st catch!!
