Joining the D5 fold.
Well after much deliberation, I've decided to swap my D4 for a D5, principally since not liking the Defender options that are available at the moment.
I'm not sure why, but with no obvious alternative I thought I'd give one a go, and a pretty decent deal on the table helps.
I had thought of waiting another year but I can't see much coming on the horizon that suits my needs, I had a mad moment and just thought what the hell- it might actually be quite good... but I'm sure that I've got some compromises heading my way.
Anyway I'll keep you updated on my thoughts when I take delivery next week.
On the plus side my MY16 D4 will be for sale in a week or so.
In short:
SDV6 HSE Indus Silver c/w Black Pack
Reg: March 2016
51000 miles
Has LR Extended Warranty
Full LFSH
I'll be posting in the 'for sale' section when I've got time to get some more photos etc.
Wish me luck - thinking it could be a rocky road ahead.
Cheers.Still lurking, although moved to the dark side: disco5.co.uk

Not something I could see myself doing with my MY16 HSE - even though nothing in the 2020 Defender range appeals (No PHEV - WTF?).... Disco 4 - classic looking - and copied by the New Defender to my eyes.....! Something I will keep (hopefully - ) for while yet.....2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

I followed a well driven D5 t'other day. I was impressed by its composure and lack of roll. A D3 or 4 at the same speed would have been much less pleasant to be in, I'm sure. Quick, too.
I was impressed although the rear number plate still grates...Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Don’t worry You’ll be ok, it’s a nice car. It’s I not as practical but you can work around it, we replaced our d4 with a d5 and t6 to cover the practical side until the 130 arrives.

as another who just didnt like the D5 when first released, I have had mine 10 months now, and I must say it has just grown on me and is a much nicer place to be sitting than either D3 or D4 ever was. Mines a 2 Ltr 240 Diesel and I have been very impressed with it, as its quicker than the D4 and very much more economical (I have seen 50MPG on the lie-o-meter ). OK the latest 3Ltr would be quicker but its more than OK for me
It tows very nicely (1800kg 'van on the back), and the only downside so far is what I can (or more to the point cant) get in the boot. It wouldnt take a fridge standing upright as the opening was about an inch too low so had to lay it on its side, and with the load area not being as square as the D4 we struggled a bit when trying to bring all my daughters stuff home from Uni. With the tailgate being more rounded, I actually found the trick to max capacity was load about half the stuff through the tailgate, then close it, then go inside via one of the rear doors and push everything up agianst the closed taligate then finishing filling via the rear doors - seemed to work well.
Just enjoy it, and give the dinosaurs with a D4 a smile and a wave and tell then not to fret too much about crank failures

The D5 is a nice car, a pleasant place to be. I enjoyed mine up until it decided it needed its first service at 6 months old and then every month there after 10 months old and it had to go which was just as well as it’s new owners have just had a new engine fitted at less than 3 years old.
Would I take another? No but similarly I wouldn’t take another Velar either.

Think you've hit the nail on the head J77 - "it's a nice car".
Enjoy your new "car" Slug, really hope you enjoy it, it certainly is a big step from the D4. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧
