Pressing the button on the key fob and in conjunction with dash button. it won't open , I cannot hear the soleniod either, so it may be that?
before I rip the rear panel out and repair the wire end, I seem to remember other potential areas that could cause failure - any ideas

IIRC to open the tailgate from inside the vehicle you press the lock and unlock button together for a few seconds you should then hear it unlock.I'm not as good as I once was........but I'm as good once as I ever was.
I did try that. Reading a TSB it seem to be the cable as I cannot hear any sound, which is mentioned in the text.

Weird.
If it was the cable that has snapped off at the end, then you would still here the solenoid actuating.
If you don't hear any noise at all, then it has to be either the switch (possibly ruled out if the emergency procedure doesn't work) or the solenoid itself, but there's not much to go wrong with it to be honest....
It could always be the cables that go from one thing to another?2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

And when I wrote "cables" I meant "wiring".
Not having much luck here, but the wine was nice 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG
under the rear tailgate handle (the bit your fingers grab) is a rubber gaiter...take that off and underneath is the microswitch of the handle and it maybe either realy corroded or broken...as common as the cable breakingTLO has left the building.......

Hey big boy ... that's wot I said !
I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.
thanks Ronp / TLO I will look there first - can the switch be shorted out to test without stripping any think down ?
The TSB LTB00191 does say 'the solenoid can not be heard' so could still be the cable.

thanks guys, it turned out to be the corrosion of the the latch in the handle, I guess they think it's sealed in there, it look like it's phosphated which is a poor show. - anyone know the part number ? i'll ring up the factory when I find it and have a moan.
