Also - When I look at the Settings->General->Bluetooth and click on "LAND ROVER" - I see the screen below (which suggests that my bluetooth module is giving all the options, doesn't it?)
I probably need to go into the settings in the car (the 753 screen) to find the bluetooth module serial/version in the car so we can compare don't I?

the bluetooth grabbed the call and it worked.
It's possibly worth mentioning that I had the dealer upgrade the firmware on the bluetooth module to the latest one about 1 year ago (last time it was mentioned on the boards) - and it all worked fine with my jailbroken iPhone 3G too.
This is promising news. While the iPhone 3GS I've been having pairing hurdles with did not pair more readily between with v3.0 and v3.01 firmware versions, the 2006 LR3 HSE has not had the Bluetooth module upgraded (to the best of my knowledge). For example, when paired, the settings screen I see on my 3GS only shows the top "Forget" button. The additional features may apply only in a later revision.
After a series of bad experiences with my local Encino Rover dealer, I will start anew with another nearby dealer service department. I'm finally confident that with a receptive service manager, I can get this issue addressed.
If you do come across a way to identify the successful firmware version, I'd be interested. Thanks for the info you've contributed.

Interestingly (or not??) when checking the screen on my iPhone 3G ver 3.0.1 in Settings, General, Bluetooth, I have extra two tabs under Other Groups, namely "Group Name" and "Imported Contacts". Can't remember if they were there with ver 2.0 to be honest as wasn't an issue then.
Cheers

Thanks folks. Well I've ordered one and it arrives tomorrow. I'll report back on how it performs in the car. Fingers crossed.

Well my local LandRover have got back to me on this iphone 3gs pairing issue. Here's the bullet points.
1) LR do not yet officially support anything above version 2 of the iPhones software
2) there is a patch available for the bluetooth firmware but LR believe this was to allow version 2 of the iPhone to sync the phonebook
3) they are willing to try this upgrade for me (incase it has any other benefits) like working with v3.0 but they want £86+VAT - and that apparently is a discounted price coz of other troubles I've had with them recently.
4) they wont guarantee it will make any difference.
5) They are still awaiting info from LR technical as to when news / support will be out for the iPhone v3.0 (or above)

Hiya Neil - I did have a look last night (whilst fitting a GVIF interface to the Nav screen) - but couldn't see anything displayed in the 753 screen that looked like a firmware level for the bluetooth module.
I'll try and take some photos - just in case anything is useful.

OK - the only things that shows a version number were in the HLDF and MMM screen in "Configuration" -both of these are below, in case they're of use to you!

OK as promised reporting back and no issues so far. Pairs fine, doesn't disconnect and transfers PB pretty quickly. No complaints.
I'm using iPhone 3GS firmware 3.0.1 with a 08 HSE Disco3.

it would appear from a quick review that it's the older Discos with the pairing problem. I'm on 3.01 with a 2005 HSE and still have the problem.

OK I have a reply from LR technical........it's not good.
They confirm that officially they only support upto v2.0 of the iphone. (if others work then that's just lucky)
Earlier D3 and RRS use a different BT module that wont pair automatically with iphone 3GS
Later D3 and RRS (2008) do seem to pair ok with iphone v3, V3.01 & GS though that is by luck not design.
LR have no intention to develop any patch / firmware upgrade or resolve in any otherway for those that dont work.
So unless you are prepared to upgrade the BT module in your car (££££££ ), then I'm afraid it seems that we are stuck with entering the pin twice manually each time.

Hmm, couldn't find the hardware number listed in the vbf database. Didn't have enough time to play last night. Will have another look later today. Will post hw and sw numbers laterh
thats all the info. no legacy assy # or anything else but a serial #
When I check that h/w #, the latest s/w is already installed, or am I missing something?
No, hang on, am I being a pillock? for the same hardware version there is also NNV507240, which would include the BT phone book. Gonna load it and see what happens
Yes I am being a pillock. Wiggs thanks mate - the latest software works great, complete with phonebook, favourites etc. - so this is proof that if you have an '07 RRS with the above hardware versions, you can get it flshed and make it work.
