Well my iid turned up and I set up my account and bits and pieces. Tried enabling the rear camera, but every time I do it just freezes up and doesn’t do anything. I just get a blank box ghosting over the text. When I try shutting it all down and connecting again it just comes up with tool does not respond. If I leave it for a while then it works again but just freezes up when I try and save the ccf files.
So annoyed right now as it’s not like I’ve done it on the cheap and bought a cheapy item. It’s over £400 for one of these things and you just expect it to work!

Yeah. Got that.
So far I’ve managed to code the new 5 button key. Drls to stay on when the headlights are off. Activate the rear view camera. All of this has been quite painful when it freezes up all the time. I really wasn’t expecting something that cost so much, to be so much of a headache

Yeah I’ve pretty much done what I needed to with the iid but it’s just annoying that it’s so touch and go wether it works or not. Waiting on a reply back from gap about the issue but they are on their annual holidays. I’ve bought obd boxes like this before and paid like £25 and been able to do other things like this on other cars I’ve had. Yes they have had the same sort of issues but I expected it from something that costed £25. I’m happy with the outcome and the unit has paid for itself already but I just expected a more seamless experience.

The first thing I tried before I updated the firmware was turn on the rear view camera. This took many attempts to work without freezing but eventually got there. I then updated the firmware but it didn’t make any difference as when I turned the drl’s on for the facelift headlights and also programmed the second key it still froze every time I tried.
There’s a couple of things I tried like seeing how many keys are activated on the car but it just froze trying. As I’ve said it’s just touch and go if things work.
I’d like to have a go setting different heights to the suspension but I need to do a bit more reading up before I start messing with that.

Hi
Similar problem here too. Also new tool arrived this week.
Waiting for gap to come back. Tool freezes and has to be left out for some time before it can be used again without getting the “tool does not respond” at startup.
Must be a bug of some sorts in the communication with ipad/phone ( same on both devices) as the iid continues its task when it freezes. ( eg purging fbh)
Editing ccf not possible when uploading files always the “upload failed” message.
Always a backup failed message at start of upload.
So spending more time trying to get it started vs working with it atm.
I’m confident they’ll come with a solution soon. Please if having same issue send them the bug report as this is their only real technical reference for what is going on.

The iid tool was faulty. Gap sent a new one and asked me to send old one back. They said they wouldn’t cover the return postage back to Canada. So I called duckworths and told them the situation. He said return iid to them and they will pay postage cost. Can’t fault them! Haven’t used the new tool yet but will have a go today.

Hi Disco Neil
Any progress with the new tool?
I am waiting for GAP but holidays over there.
Tried mine using 3 different devices with different IOS versions and always the same result. As my unit came also from Duckworth i think it is mutual interest to see if it would be a batch failure or individual units showing this problem. Hence my interest knowing if the replacement tool worked ok?
There are now 3 threads with similar communication gremlins in the past week.
I'm holding off holidays as i need diagnostics with me (new car to me, first trip and going "remote" enough to be wanting to do some self diagnose in case something happens)

I bought one a few weeks ago too and have been having the same issue. I’ve found it’s much better if you turn of the WiFi on your phone or tablet and also make sure the radio is off in the car. I think it’s a firmware issue rather than a fault as such with the tool. Discovery 4 XXV
