HSE LUXURY or Graphite

I have been a regular and a a member at distance for some years on here. Been a while since my last post.

I have just sold my Discovery "5" after just shy of 3 years and 35,000 miles. It has lost less than £10k in that time as prices are still so strong for new ish Land Rover trade ins, immensely proud of its resale value.

But, now I have retired the car is going to do very little mileage, I would rather get the cash out of it than it sit around in the yard costing £600 to tax etc etc and likely worsening depreciation now the market gets back to normal.....

It was fantastically reliable in this time other than one dicky TPS sensor ... so if its a good LR I should keep it..... but I just cant justify such an expensive car sitting around doing very little. I would love a 3.0 Defender 110 after my very short custodianship of the 2.0 Ingenium engined 110 I rejected before the D5. But I cannot justify the cost of this. Other hobbies such as sailing are a drain on resources and I cant keep new LR's and run a big sailing boat retired. Something has got to give, and the boat gives me more freedom than a new LR every 3 years.

We also have a L322 TDV8 we have had for just shy of 5 years. It was immensely reliable for the first 4 years of ownership, but in the last year its started eating twenty pound notes like smarties, even its lovely diesel V8 rumble can no longer excuse such wallet draining antics. So this will very soon (unless I bottle it and go all soft) be departing too.

We live in the middle of nowhere and we need one 4x4 on the fleet and our old Series III is no more than a garage ornament doing 800 miles a year... (it should really go too but will NEVER sell it).....

I am coming home.... looking for a very very last of the line Disco 4 Late 2015/2016.... Prices seem very high still .... would you go Graphite or HSE/ HSE LUX....

I am not bothered about high ish mileage (max 80k).... as this vehicle will be doing less than 8,000 a year now I am not at work, so it'll average out in time. Budget £25k.... this will be half of the L322/D5 sale proceed money .....

Thoughts please.....

For me, the graphite looks better with the colour coding, had everything I needed, however both my XS and Graphite seats were not the most comfortable.

It's easy enough to have both Very Happy

I sprayed the front grill on my HSE Lux black, except the very outer edge, did the same with the side vents, then changed the wheels for a set of Black 19" ones, partly to get a better choice of AT tyres.

If you want the latest possible D4 then most of them were HSE, HSE Lux or Landmark and will be easier to find.
Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

The date range you state for your car hunt starts with 2015. If it is a 2015 I would look for a car that is a 2016 model year , so latter part of 2015 . It will then be a Euro 6 model, have Adblue and a full size spare. With low emission zones popping up everywhere now I believe the Euro 6 category will become more and more important both in UK and Europe ( if you plan to venture there).
Good hunting

****UPDATE*****

Well..... I ended up buying a 2022 X5 30D M-SPORT. It is very fast, has air suspension so a decent ride, has a service pack on it and will do 43 MPG on a run.

Not a proper 4x4 .... I know but I do like it. I have done the opposite of what I intended to do. I wish I had never test drove it. It sounded too nice and was too fast and nice to drive. I caved. Big Cry

It was a close second the Volvo XC90. Really nice car. Well priced too... the growl and performance of the BMW 6 cylinder diesel was too alluring ... however. Laughing

Well the X5 lasted 3 months. Wonderful wonderful car...... too posh and footballery for me. Traded it in and took a large hit. But joined the Ineos crowd .... its been an alluring prospect for some time. But had to be done. 3.0 diesel in an old defender with just enough modernity to make it a daily driver. 5 year warranty. I love it.
