HELP: DAB Reception - pants |
|
Hi All - Took delivery of the new car just before the weekend. LOVE IT
I do have 1 issue that I just can't work out or fix. It is an issue with DAB reception.
I live in central London, so coverage should not be an issue. Also the problem happens on all the preset channels I have set.
Here is what's happening:
- Any station I am listening to keeps cutting in and out every 10-15 seconds. It is super annoying. It goes silent for a second and then comes on again
- Sometimes I loose sound completely. The screen in the dash says no reception.
- I have tried this with the Signal Link on and off. It does not make a difference
- Not sure what band seetings I should have. I have done III and L
Has anyone else experienced this. I hope it is an easy fix. Could it be a faulty fin?
Any advice most welcome. Hope to sort it. until then I guess it's FM
Much thanks.

On my MY10 there are 3 DAB pre-set 'channels' - try moving them around - mine never works on number 2, only 1 or 3 - try it - might work

Mine is very good. It occasionally cuts out, but only when I am in the hills. Ive been listening to it all day today, journey from Stockport to Cambridge, then up to Wellingborough. No interruptions at all, except for a few bits across the Peak District.

Mine works fine in Glasgow until within a heavily built up area, but last week in London wasn't up to much. I'm not sure but its as if the digital signal is affected far more by buildings and hills than an analogue one. Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Two questions please?
Does the D4 radio offer FM as well as DAB?
Does the DAB radio work well in all European countries? I believe that there may be major problems in both Austria & Spain?

I travel into High Holborn a few times a month on average with no substantial loss of DAB signal.
In general I find there are signal crossover points in exactly the same location every time and this is countrywide...so for example when I take Mrs. DG to Sainsburys in Cobham there is a signal drop out for a millisecond on the Cobham Exchange roundabout.
NJSS yes you get FM radio and DAB 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

& about with my DAB in the XK to no avail.
OK when it works the sound iss a cut above FM (more depth) but the interferance is very annoying as it makes squeaks & whistles like a Radio from the 40's or 50's.
The travelling around we do I get chance to test it in a variety of locations...personally I think its all hype with no distinct advantage above std FM. Maybe its me, the way my system is set up or something else...but I wouldnt bother on my next vehicle. I use the iPod more than anything else as the alternative to Radio 4. BREXIT - done properly.

Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault

VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK

Thank-you; I am relieved to hear that FM is an option, as my experience of DAB is very variable.
Another question does the D4 radio support DAB+ (HE-AAC), and is it enabled in UK vehicles?

I thought these were simply 3 pages of memories?
There's something strange going on here... The DAB on my MY11 is really good. I drive all over the UK and regularly in London and don't listen to FM at all. Never had any significant loss of DAB signal either? Obviously if you've tuned to local channels and drive out of the area then you'll get a 'no reception' message, and you can occasionally get a blip as you drive through crossover points, but if you've got the signal link 'on' then national channels should have more consistent coverage than FM now?

I have just fitted a Road Angel Gem and haven't noticed any change in DAB reception? Which road Angel is yours? Apart from when the sim is checking for updates, I can't think how it could effect the DAB signal. I thought they were passive devices or does yours have a jammer?
