Aircraft parking analogy!
Charging based on emissions takes no account of passenger efficiency (Disco 3's have up to 7 seats ), and total miles or tons of CO2 produced.
Imagine applying a parking charge to jumbo jets at Heathrow airport, while placing no limit or charge on smaller aircraft or how many miles they all fly, and fuel they burn! Clearly this is a very very poor way to pursue the stated goal of reducing CO2 emissions, for the benefit of mankind. Is this a powerful anaology I wonder? The jumbo is very efficient based on a per-capita basis, or passenger miles.

What the extra funds are to be used for is somewhat vague, imo.
It will take a lot more than that to convince me that this isn't just another way to tax the "soft target" motorist.
Just left a message which ended with "MUPPETS". Doubt it will be read aloud in chambers though

Perhaps an alternative approach would be to apply a multiple of the pollution percentage of the originating country of vehicle manufacture...this would then reflect the so called damage done by the country's own 'nasty' emissions....so lets see the top 12
USA = 24.3 x existing charge
China = 14.5 x ...
Russia = 5.9 x ...
India = 5.1 x ...
Japan = 5 x ...
Germany = 3.3 x ...
UK = 2.3 x ...
Canada = 2.1 x ...
S. Korea = 1.8 x ...
Italy = 1.8 x ...
Mexico = 1.6 x ...
France = 1.6 x ...

Alliance Against Urban 4X4's
Had a look at the above's website today, just to refresh my mind on the ignorant bs that these people peddle.
They suggest that you have an estate or mpv instead of a 4X4.
O.K then, I'll sell my D3, change my lifestyle so that I no longer need to venture across fields & farm tracks & buy an mpv.
The Renault Grand Espace seems like a suitably nice mpv. good spec. roomy etc.
So let's compare it to the TDV6 D3.
Length of Grand Espace = 4856mm D3 = 4835mm
Width of Grand Espace =2104mm D3 = 2109mm
Average mpg of 2.0T Grand Espace = 29.1 mpg D3 = 30.0mpg
Brilliant, I can now drive in towns or cities without fear of my vehicle being ticketed by the Alliance or even vandalised.
Let's not forget that the D3 is a large & thirsty beast, many 4X4's are much smaller & more economical. Could easily have compared a Merc. E class estate etc. as well.
These people are just ignorant about cars, muppets

I love the way Jeep have embraced the Dust to Dust costs reserach that was done recently and put a 3 page add in Autocar (others too I imagine) pointing out the facts and listing the results to show that we are not the enemy of the world... but the Pious hybrid drivers are
