I apologise if this has been covered before. Last weekend, when I tried to drive away (car had been idle for a couple of weeks) handbrake wouldn't release. Had to drive (try) backwards and forwards until the seizure broke. Wasn't too sure if I was going to be stuck!!! Is this common?

Not common but I've had similar to this... only very minor sticking especially if its been wet and the disks have stuck to the pads.
Happened on nearly all cars I've had too to be honest.
Did the EPB light go out before you drove off or was it still on ?

No lights, infact when I was trying to release the brake there were no lights on the dash at all.

Wfes Audi TT does the same, as did the front wheels on the Freelander. Just have to drive it every day. Not had it yet on D3 but then it doesn't get left very often.

funny but happened to me this morning car has been idle for a couple of days and the last thing i did to it on monday was pressure wash and clean it ,won't do that again  leave it after washing that is

Mine stuck some weeks ago although this was half way through a 1 hour journey. I had stopped at a set of lights and could not drive off as the hand brake was electronically seized on ! Lots of horns pipping and me going nowhere. In the end I switched off the engine and re-started and all was well again, a bit worring though.
Does anybodies hand barke allow their car to roll forward at all (upto 1m) before snatching on ? Mrs Jones ? We've come for your Liver

If you leave any vehicle for any length of time .... don't leave the park brake on ... of course it'll bind.
[and if you wash it and leave it, this hurries up the process].
Leaving it in first gear/P auto [preferably on level ground] is best. I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

I think ronp that in this instance the lock on fault occurred during a journey. I had this problem early in the new year, the soft reset (switch off) works ...but it is a symptom of further EPB trouble. Get it into the stealer for a check  21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Yes mine too. I got a whole new park brake system and its been ok, until today when it decided to start creeping forward with the PB on and the transmission in D at the lights
I don't think wev'e seen this before have we chaps? ( the red (P) was definitly on)

I have had that for the last month, and before the software upgrade last year ( during which I got them to do all the little jobs too) , a double tap got rid but thats not good enough  .
Service yesterday I asked them to look at it again, cured it I think.....for now

Mine goes in for a few things next week, so I'll add it to the list. I suspect it needs an adjustment, and I'm sure it involves driving around at speed and pulling the park brake on, but I'll let the dealer do it.

 OMG Mine does it now ...but I have found that it seems to work like a virtual handbrake ...the harder and longer time that you pull ..the firmer the brake application. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I find that I can minimize this creep if I apply the HB and then SLOWLY release the finger switch. It seems to work. Where as if I release quickly then occasionaly I get this creep, although 1m is the max I ever got. Anyway it then snatches on pretty hard.
One for the dealer, anyway the D3 needs a wash. Mrs Jones ? We've come for your Liver

8) Something new to talk about. I have to admit, I am lazy and tend to just flick the lever up, I don't hold it up for any length of time. I'll give that a go tomorrow. Friday will breed plenty of traffic jams.
