I'm about to order a set of these and some 19" rims to put them on.
It's not that I don't trust Moo, but has anyone else any experience with them yet?
A long shot, but particularly on a wet slimy slipway.
Or snow.
Thanks

I've got Cooper att (which look identical to the Avon's) can't fault them yet. I'll probably buy the Avon's next though if they're the same. Which ever is the cheaper option for the same tyre. All depends on what you want form the tyre if you don't go off road then road bias tyres will always handle better on road than the all terrains. It's always a compromise with AT's between road and off road ability. I can't grumble about mine as they do what I want.

Thanks jamez79, I hadn't thought to ask about the Coopers, I'm told Avon own Cooper so they are the same tyre.
It's not a simple choice of on or Off-road for me.
Apart from using the car nearly every day as my main transport it also needs to launch my boat, which is a big ask for the tyres when you've got 2.7Tns of Land Rover and over 2tns of boat and trailer on a wet slimy slipway.
the boat also gets towed across wet grassy campsites.
As you can see it's a big old lump pictured here on the back of my old D3, and I've recently put an even bigger and heavier engine on the back.:

Also, because of the topography we get loads more snow than anywhere else around here, and it's also hilly. It can be like the images below yet a mile away there'll be next to no snow.
And yes, the diagonal snow line from Right to left is the road out of our Cul-De-Sac.
I often tow some of the neighbours to the top of the hill when it snows:
The GG AT's I had on the D3 worked well in both situations, but I got fed up with them wearing so quickly.
The Wranglers I used after were good on the slipway but struggled in the snow.

Been in a local tyre fitter's today and they also think that the Avon is the same as the Cooper but when they rang up to get prices they were told the cooper is not available in 255/55 19 111 … so maybe it's a rebranding exercise ?
the only reason I've not pulled the trigger on getting the Avons is they only have a C-grade for wet braking, so I may forego the "AT" choice and go for e.g. Uniroyal Rainsport 5s ... SWMBOs Antara has the Rainsport 3s on it and they handle very well and are fantastic in the wet.
cost-wise, the Avons come to ~£480 fitted/balanced/VAT for 4.
Tyre alone varies from £100 to £124.
Kwik-fit also have tyres that fit the bill and offer 0% finance.
Costco looked to be better choice, offering Goodyear 255/55 R19 (107) V VECTOR 4 SEASON SUV G2 @ £128.32
and there is a deal : Buy 2 get £50 OFF; Buy 4 get £100 OFF
but those are only 107 load rating.
The 111 rated Goodyear is £60 per tyre more
They do have Bridgestone-25555-R19-111V-TURANZA-T005-XL @£116 (no multi-buy deals)
(and there is about a tenner a tyre charge for fitting/balancing/disposal)
Do I have to have 111 rated tyres of would 107 suffice ? (will check handbook in a mo)

Just bought some tyres from Tyreleader (online), less than half the price from any tyre fitting depot.
The only reason I can see for their prices are that the tyres are 2 - 3 years old, which isn't a problem as they'll only last 2 years at the most.
Handy having a friendly local mobile tyre service so fitting not an issue for me.

Well, that cleared that up NOT
It implies both that 107 is ok but not the 255/55 19 size !

Nasher, that cul de sac looks interesting in the snow!
Great photo of the boat and D3.
I can't fault my Coopers, had them for almost a year (on the back) and they handle fine and wear fine. Hey still look new to be honest and I drive everyday covering 10,000-12,000 miles a year I guess.
Majority is road use, but the occasional off road foray around my local shoot during the season and dog training during the close season. Haven't got stuck yet and haven't had any "oh dear" moments.
Hardware, my wife has an Antara too! Albeit she's got road tyres on, think they're Hankook's. She tends to nick my D4 if she's going anywhere dog training and might go off road. It's a stressful few hours worrying about my D4!

Loving mine so far.
Been great in the wet and on wet grass, but obviously not tried them in the snow or a wet slipway yet.

We too have got AT3s on our D4. Rears are ok, fronts a little mean compared to rears but still well on the legal side. MOT is looming in Dec but I doubt whether they will even rate a notice on the cert. (what cert??)
What's the thought on putting say AX7s on the front to try but keeping the AT3s on the rear. Looks odd to me (type a mentality and all that) pattern wise but what about safety?

Always fit the newest tyres to the rear. That applies regardless of front, rear or all wheel drive. Understeer being less tricky than oversteer. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I wouldn't. I always fit a full set on mine and change at 4mm. Tyres are the bit that keep you and your family safe in a 3tonne brick in the rain.New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

I prefer the same make of tyre front and rear. Most of the time, most tyres will behave in a similar fashion but, in extremis, different tyres will behave differently. Finding that out during an emergency manoeuvre would be unfortunate.
I currently have Pirelli AT+ on my RRS. The fronts are getting near to being ready for changing, the rears still have some good depth left on them. I'm tempted to go back to the Grabber AT3 but that means throwing away half of the life of two tyres. Will probably replace the worn AT+ with a pair of new AT+ and then try to manage the wear so that the full set can be changed next time. Having dropped it off today to have the cross over pipe changed (that's a decently chunky bill, thanks), I'd rather not waste the price of a pair of tyres at the moment!Visiting from rrsport.co.uk
