For me it's just a question of practicality. I'm still driving around in my 2008 model year D3. I simply can't afford a new one, but if I could I would be put off by the too rounded rear end, as I would have much more difficulty putting all the stuff in that we take on our extended caravan trips abroad, including our folding 24" wheeled bikes and a spin dryer (no kidding - wife says it's essential). The square boxiness of the D3/4 is much better. I would also miss the rear split tailgate. We often enjoy a picnic sitting on it looking over the Alps or the Dolomites or some other stunning scenery.2008 D3 HSE Stornoway Grey with Ebony Leather, towing a Coachman VIP 575

I don't see the ugly comments, never thought the D4 was an oil painting not that bothered me.
To me the D5 is far more handsome.

D5 looks good I think except for the rear which is (to my eyes) awkward looking but also more impractical than its predecessor. Its the rear end that made me stick with the Disco over a RangeRover and now whilst it still has the edge on load space its a lot tougher decision. I'm not too bothered about the models looking the same.MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

So why is it that land rover should be the only manufacturer STILL making vehicles that are not Pedestrian friendly in the event of an impact, whilst they all look completely different to each other?"
What I don't get is Mercedes is still producing the G-wagon, been around for a long time but has had money spent on it developing it more and more, so why not the Defender or the D4, what LR are doing is using a lame cop out to get rid of cars they don't want to produce anymore, cars that don't make them enough profit, so they can utilise the same platform for most of the cars, hence bigger profit, progression, yes, and thats understandable, but why ruin something people want at least.
Mercedes have listened to the customer, they stopped producing RHD a number of years ago and dealers were being asked for RHD, eventually they listened and started again to produce them again. Its worked, yes they are expensive for what they are as a small amount produced, but its there, I doubt they earn much out of each one but everyone knows what they are, it might have a stigma attached due to celebs, but at least they are still there, and look at one of the things they are doing to it 4x4 squared, 6 wheeler etc2015 D4 HSE LUX Kaikoura Stone(sold)

Echoes my own thoughts but still think models should be more clearly differentiated, especially if you are looking for a different market or a difference in price.
As it is the differences between the D5/D3/Evoque/RRS2 have become too blurred. Once you get it home in your garage you should at least be able to tell what model it is with just a quick glance.

I can't understand how the D5 costs twice as much as its US cousin. An SE spec Explorer is about £30,000 and has enough capability for most peoples use. If Ford brought this to the UK I'm sure it would do very well. You could even debadge it and pretend its a D5.

They may "only" be 194, but they are the chosen 194; they are the future and (with the D5 "about to sell like hot cakes") will very soon greatly outnumber us poor old flat earthers, stuck as we are with our horribly dated and unfashionable D4's!

There are seven of us? I didn't know that!
But at least you D5'ers have somewhere to discuss your issues, as consenting adults, in private yet, bizarrely, prefer to come on here and air their dirty laundry in public!
