Gearbox Fault Error

Hi All
After 4 days at Center Parcs, I jumped in the Discovery and on starting it it showed Gearbox Fault on the dash. The car drove the 150 miles there perfectly just 4 days earlier. I also noticed that the +\- had illuminated on the left of the selector surround which they don’t normally do. I popped it in reverse and everything seemed ok but I only went a few feet then thought I would try a power off and back on. The fault disappeared and the car drove the 150 mile back as normal again.

It’s done 104k now so needs a gearbox megaflush, I’m hoping Bodsy will reply to myPM soon but think he may be out of action as noticed that he hasn’t even opened it. Do I need to get it done immediately if so any other recommendations in Cheshire /North West? LrC are just down the road from me but have no experience with them!and do you think contaminated fluid can cause this or could it be something more sinister!!

Cheers
Andy

On our MY 2010 D4, if the battery level was a bit low, I sometimes got the “gearbox fault” warning. It only ever did it on the first start up and I never had a fault with it. There were no codes stored either.

I suspect that it’s a bit like the “special programs off” etc on the D3.

On our current 2016 D4, the message seems to have morphed into “camera fault”.

Thanks Nigel. It could be that I guess as it had only been sat 4 days but I had been in and out of it a few times so interior lights etc would have been on and off!

Ito be honest I’ve never even looked at the battery yet in this car as only got it a few months ago so have no idea i it’s age and condition either! Wil take a look tomorrow and stick the meter across it to see what voltage it’s holding. , I’ve ordered one of them fag lighter voltage readers as well so I can get an immediate idea in the future as well!
Cheers

I have had this before on my wife's D4. I noticed that if you do not press hard enough on the brake pedal when starting this would occasionally happen. However, the biggest difference was made since changing the battery for an Odyssey battery and have no problems since with anything.

As has been said, new battery. They are lucky to last three years in these things unless regularly charged independently. Low battery causes all sorts of errors at startup.

Hi all, checked my battery and I guess it may be on its way out! I had done a 2 hour clear motorway run the day before so I guess the battery should have been full but voltage was only 12.4v so I guess pretty well down. When running I was getting 14.8v across the terminals so I think the alternator is doing what it should be doing!
Will have a search on here to see what others reccomend as the best battery.
Cheers
