Oil leak, bulkhead side MY12 HSE
My friend called me over last night. He has a MY12 HSE. It has developed a leak on the bulkhead side of the engine. It is dropping oil (a puddle about the size of a 5x50p's in 3 hours), but his engine oil level does not seem to have dropped much if at all.
Any ideas what a leak on this side of the engine could be?
It was a dark oil but did not smell like engine oil.
Thanks in advance.

I had something very similar - hope your issue isn't the same as costly to fix.
My Main Dealer told me I had the following faults causing a similar leak:
1. Engine
N/S/R camshaft seal leaking-will require diesel pump cam belt-should have bolt for camshaft pulley!
£729.72
2.
Engine - 2
would advise N/S cam cover gasket also as oil around area
£1,688.4
The above price to fix the Cam Seal was based on using a special LR tool and 7 hours labour. However not many Main Dealers will do the work without taking the body off as they say the tool rarely works - it bends if the nut is on too tight. Then they end up taking the body off - 13 hours labour using LR time guide.
I eventually opted for my Indy to do the job with the body off as it ended up cheaper and they confirmed there was no fault with the N/S cam cover gasket. They did the cam belts at the same time so I saved some money there.
Best thing to do is get it into an Indy and up on a ramp - they can see where the oil is coming from as it is likely spraying onto the bulk head.
