Gearbox
Hi all,
I’ve not had my 2010 LR4 Discovery but had it to tow a twin axle caravan.
When I’m towing the van the gear changes seem to stay in a higher gear for too long and I have to manually drop it down a gear, specially on hills.
So question is, can I reset the gearbox back to factory via the IIDTool and let it learn my driving habits and towing gear changes so they are quicker and more effective.
Or will it do more harm than good.

i would not clear learning cycles on gearbox
did you ever had a gear oil change or flush
mine 8speed was also holding to gears for longer until flush was done and no feels more lie when it was fresh from factory

Didn’t notice revs but for example going up a slight incline it auto drops down a gear and stays there. The feel and sound isn’t right so I manually drop it up a gear and the car pulls and sound fine.
Hence the question above.
No, not had a flush or change done again hence the question.

My box used to learn to hold onto gears longer after I'd done a lot of towing (big TA van). It will do naturally due to the increased effort, I just used Sport mode and give it a helping hand with a manual shift if necessary.
I would very much recommend a flush if you haven't had one done over 50k miles. It transforms the box.
I'd also not get too keen to get it to shift if you're dragging a heavy 'van up a hill, you'll just push the additional effort and load into the engine. Just dropping a few MPH is often better and leave it in the gear it thinks it needs.D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten
