I only just had this done under extended warranty, they told me it would have been £700 if out of warranty, didn't mention there was a TSB for it.
I haven't bothered chasing them but they also replaced it with a selector which a silver/aluminium top instead of the black that it had originally.

Does anyone have any links to a swap pout procedure for the unit or advice on method? Has anyone tried approaching warranty direct for the cost of a fix and if so did they agree to it?

I have a good friend who is an electronic wizard so was thinking if anyone had a failed unit they could let me have, I'd ask him to see if he could find the reason for the failure and pass it on.
He repaired an ECU from a Volvo for the sake of a little bit of soldering having found the fault for pennies that Volvo wanted £600 for.
Might be worth a shot?

I had the full unit replaced under Mapfre warranty, but it was due to sticking solenoid rather than failing light. Perhaps if the unit was sticking intermittently as well, it might be covered...

Just to report that I had my gear selector replaced under Warranty Direct extended warranty today as the background lighting on it had stopped working (ring light and gear position letters). All working fine now. Also to note, this is the 'old' original Warranty Direct warranty before it changed hands.
