Fuel Leak off pipe issue
Hi Folks, i wonder if anyone could help.
D3 190k 54 plate,
Since changing the fuel filter after engine had cut out a few times which solved that issue. but seems to have uncovered another issue.
I first had a burst leak off pipe assembly and replaced it. Now the leak off pipe seems to be fuel getting into the temp sensor through its sealant and raising a code, the connection pins are awash with fuel. Thats sensor showing registers -41 degrees when the fault occurs and put me in limp mode. Mopping fuel out lets me clear code and drives normal again. 10-15 miles later happens again. I have slaved in the old sensor and now temp appears normal (55-65degrees)on IID live page. This allows me to drive normal.
I’ve checked the fuel filter connections are correct. And blew through the connection from leak off pipe through fuel cooler down to filter to ensure nothing blocked. There is still an issue which says to me there is an excess of pressure getting into the leak off line. Would an injector bypassing heavily raise the pressure that a sensor would fail? Would a genuine LR pipe be a better option(£163), current one is LR Trade parts(£49) on ebay
Any pointers would be great and welcome.

Kits like this do exist so you can see if one injector is leaking a lot
Or you could put the pipe by the sensor into a jar , so you can try and determine if it’s over pressure.
Maybe the injector that blew its pipe off is at fault
If you’re careful and use a hair dryer you could heat the pipes by the Y join and disconnect and compare the fuel coming out the left side to the right.
It’s highly likely to result in something breaking though and your car off the road for a few days while you order new pipe

Yeah i think next port of call is a leak off test. I have the old pipe so can make up something with the correct fitting.
The truck is now running great aside from that small sensor issue.

Hello. Having similar problems, like many others it seems.
What do you mean with slaved the old sensor?
What temperature reading are you having when engine is cold? Should diesel temperature be as high as 50-60degrees? Just wondering since this is the reading I got when disconnecting the temp sensor (open circuit)

Hi Sorry been away.
The old sensor cut off the pipe and plugged into the red connector. Temp gets as high as 99 today which id guess it temp of fuel rail anyway, whole things incredibly hot. Drove well towing until i had to really put foot down as a big artic truck wouldn’t make room for me. Shortly after heard a clicking noise and some smoke so misfiring somewhere, but engine seemed to sort itself out. But later in the service station it wouldnt catch when i restarted the engine so needed easy start spray. i think air in pipework or injector in bad shape

I presume its all the same fault.

It says injector leaking.
Interesting. Maybe into the cylinder or into leak off pipe
