French Campsite Recommendation |
|
It's that time again to start thinking of holidays.
We fancy the idea of taking our caravan on the channel tunnel and although really love Brittany we don't really want to drive hundreds of miles after we get to Calais.
The ferry isn't really an option as we have a dog and don't want to leave her in the car too long.
So my question is can anyone recommend a nice campsite within a hundred mile radius of Calais? We always went the the vendee area as the weather has its own microclimate and we usually returned better tanned than those staying in northern France!
It's a fair drive though, so we used to lessen the drive by a longer ferry crossing to Caen, I wouldn't want to drive there from Calais particularly as I have a 4 hour drive across the england before I even say bonjour!
Not much help with your request, but other than that maybe try Carnac area, plenty of sites there and an easy drive ....................................................................................................
If my wife ever sells my stuff for what she thinks I paid for them, you lot are gonna get some bargains!

You are almost spoilt for choice. Caravan Club Continental Handbook will give lots of info as will the ACSI book. One or two good Chateau campsites near Calais but have only used as night stops before or after ferry crossing.

we have struggled over the years to find decent sites in the Calais area when arriving/departing on the dover/Calais ferries.
We now use La Bien Assise which is only 6 miles from Calais but I would only recommend it as an overnight stop on the way to/from the ferries.
if we are traveling further we usually aim for Amiens and Parc de Cygnes which is 100 miles from Calais and means you have made a start to the journey south. We then proceed via Rouen. Amiens is ok for a few days stay.
Another site we enjoyed for a week was in St Quentin at Du Vivier aux Carpes, that's about 115 miles from Calais. OK if you don't want to travel to far. Good fishing lakes on the site and nice and small and rural.
Hope this helps.
Steve.

Chateau du Gandspette is a good site, with lots in the area to see and do. Only 30 minutes from Calais.

Last Aug we spent 2 weeks at La Pin Parasol, very good site, clean, lots to do and very nice staff, going there again next year.

Oh yes and LOTS of D2s & D3's there from the UK so it looks like its a popular site with Land Rover owners from the UK. Dale

I always stop at le puits about 20 miles west of Caen. It's 200 miles from Calais but a relatively easy run. Very peaceful site and lots of space and a bar. Not much entertainment though but that's not what I want anyway. You can leave you van hitched to your car and it's 10 mins back onto the Brittany road.

Give them a call and ask for Mélanie, online system might be full but they still might have a few pitches available.
