Fitting new dash kit .... tips please.

Got my new Brunel dash kit from TLO this morning. Thumbs Up
This evening went out to have a quick look and a tug at the existing side bits.
But don't know if I'm tugging right. Embarassed
One of the clips [out of three] refused to give in.
Don't want to ruin the bits if I'm tugging the wrong way?
[I'm sorted with the central 'H' section - done it before.]

Anything I should know to avoid damage or is it just a case of tugging harder??

The side vent trims release much the same way the center fascia does - from the bottom first, then pivot upward slightly to release upper tabs, then straight out. Once released from the bottom, force should be avoided because the vent cone can get wedged and you'll risk one of the tabs.

I find that sometimes those clips can get inverted on one side and will absolutely refuse to come out. In that case, a long, very thin screwdriver can be used to release the clip from off the stud. Or pulling hard and the clip will either spring off or snap...

If you tug to hard, either you will break it or make a mess of your fingers Laughing

I could not believe how tight mine were. Actually though they must have had a hidden screw holding them on. Fingers were really sore by the time the clips gave up their hold.

As stated the side vent trims are the worst for being hard to pull off, once off swapping the vents over is very easy.Refitting requires assertive actions to ensure clips go home as they should.

As for the centre console H trim grip at the bottom outer edges with yr thumbs on the inside edges and pull b Censored dy hard!!!,as usual be prepared to dodge flying clips. Unsure what year your D3 is as those of us with 05 - 07 had to modify the mouldings behind the centre dash trim as the new H trim has an additional peg & clip on both sides. If you fall into the years stated then you will need to cut out a hole on each side for the peg/clip to locate in. Check out thread "Wood Trim" as it has pics to help you on yr way.

Pics please once you have fitted it!!

Oh one last thing - watch the temperature when you do it as cold and plastics in my experience do not get along!!!

Thumbs Up
