Rooftent on FR Windcheetah - Where to fit ?
I'm in the process of setting up all the gear for my D3's Morocco trip. I have a couple of stupid questions, If you can help, would be appreciated..
The Disco is a MY08 and has an Alpine roof (Glass). I'm putting a long windheetah rack with 4 Lightforce 170 and a 140 cm X 120 cm wide tent (sold by many people and amongst others under the brand "Primetech"). I still need to put on spare wheel and at least a roof box (60x40).
I was initially thinking to put the tent at the back, and opening to the back as well but I'm concerned about the weight put on the rails so close to the glass roof. The second option is to install it at the front (and going above the LF and the boot) which would leave some space for the wheel, easily accessible by the ladder. Last option is to put it in front but with lateral opening but in this case, i'm eating up another 20 cm from the rack and there might not be enough room to fit the spare wheel and the box...
Any of you having tried one of these combos ?
Thanks !
BenoitA second D3 ! This time with all whistles and bells (Auto, 7seats, Diff Lock, RAI, all kinds of protections, winch, Extended range tank, iPod adapter....)
First time twice the same car ! and first time third car of the same brand !
I'm loving it !

Why do you want all that weight up top? the FR rack is mounted on the body seam so no issues with the glass roof.... Take out your middle row of seats, relocate some stuff from the boot area and put your second spare in there

The problem is that, on the second row, I have three 90 pds living meat loaves Well I could relocate them on the roof, they might like it...
BTW, while we are at it: did anyone tried already the new modular 17" steel rim for the Disco ?A second D3 ! This time with all whistles and bells (Auto, 7seats, Diff Lock, RAI, all kinds of protections, winch, Extended range tank, iPod adapter....)

Get a trailer for the meat loaves then
can't really help with your pack other than get a LR dog guard / loadspace guard, that way you can pack to the roof without anything coming forward in the event of 'sudden braking'
What new 17" rim?

Yes, good advise ! I'll certainly do... (for the dog guard of course)
As far as the rims are concerned, I just heard that Modular has now a version of the steel rim in 17" for the Disco and the RRS.. At 95 euros, this sounds like a promising alternative to the superb (yest costly) BB performance rims, isn't it ?A second D3 ! I think Mehari means these ones....
In Belgium they are used as a good alternative for alloy rims since they are still to expensive just to have them as second set.

Yes, I went for a set of those with some STT cooper on it... BB6 were really too expensive besides the fact that it is always (much) easier to fix a broken steel wheel than an aluminum cast one..A second D3 !
