So here's a question for you all.... I've contacted a number of camp site places on the east coast (i.e. Whitby and similar). So far of those that have got back to me they have all refused to accept a vehicle with roof tent.
Is this a regular kind of thing? I've asked the last one who got back to me today why, but still waiting to hear.
Does anyone know of any recommended sites within walking or close cycling distance on the east coast (North) that accept roof tents?
Thanks again all.RLD CB Bracket

Can't help with sites in that area sorry
Have you tried asking the chaps you're planning to rent the RT from, they may be able to help Iggy/Ieuan

And of all the different types I prefer the RT's, yes I know we don't have lions or bears in the UK
When it comes to lions and bears all a RTT does it place you at a handy head height location for either D3 07 SE - still going strong

From my experience campsites have loved having something very different on there site.
Also have been allowed to stay on both tent only sites and caravan, camper sites so most people have been very accommodating to us.
What are the reasons for them refusing a stay?

One camp site (local council owned - east coast) just point blank refused with a one line email.... very friendly NOT....
The 2nd one today said it was for health and safety reasons due to the high winds they have on their coastal site.
I was surprised, although have found one who are more than friendly and very polite on their email responses (http://www.broadingsfarm.co.uk). Will be booking in with them later today/tomorrow AM.RLD CB Bracket

To save repeating everything that everyone else has said, this video summarises the position pretty well and honestly:

This our set up at the moment down in Millau (South of France) I have just bought a Foxwing so the set up will change when I fit it. I have never been refused. Try Hooks House farm in Robin Hoods bay. That's where we stay with our RT. Take some levelling blocks though as its on a bit of a slope :thumbsup

Having started with conventional tents and worked our way through a few to an Oz Tent we found the best overall was our Howling Moon Expo Roof tent on top of the trailer.
More space, comfort and a bed that doesn't get that rising cold feeling you get from being on the ground.

All booked for 7th Sept to 10th Sept, so will be able to give feedback after that.
To date I’ve popped in a couple of times while I was in the area and very knowledgeable people who do a lot of overlanding/trade shows and such.RLD CB Bracket

Thought I’d give you all an update on the first time out 😋
Picked up the roof tent from 4x4 Overlander in Halifax on Friday and Brendan/Barbara were fantastic and helped get it fitted with no hassle even when we had to move roof bars around to fit. Roof tent was near new in condition (demo model) and went up perfectly as you would expect (those who have them). Not got anything to compare to but the RoofLodge Evolution seems really good other than a few Velcro storage straps, but that’s neither here of there. Great to have a well sealed tent and great roof windows for the morning sun.
Few pictures below of our camp in Whitby 👍 thanks again for everyone’s suggestions and encouragement.RLD CB Bracket
