A takla air jack at £280 is a good item to have with you, but check this out first

Chris

As one that has done a lot of off roading - in OZ we call it 4WDing - both in a Nissan Patrol and lately in a Disco3, I offer the following advice

Firstly learn how to drive the vehicle - take a course - D3 specific is best
secondly, travel with a mate/s - you then don't have to buy a winch (save $2,000 +)
3 - most important assecories - snatch straps $120.00 (2 is best) NOT ropes. including 3 or so RATED shackles
4 - if you're going to use your D3 offroad - fit a set of all-terains when you change tyers. - the D3 will do a remarkable job with road bised tyers - but a little more stressful (cost negative or save a few bucks when changing time comes)
5 - if trave;lling with a mate have a couple of (cheap for a start) UHF radios $60.00
6 - compressor ($150.00) for your tyer re-inflation - tyer deflation is the most important aspect of successful off-roading - more important than AT or even mud terrain tyers - LOWER YOUR TYER PRESSURE AND SEE WHAT THE DISCO 3 WILL REALLY DO
7 - cut yourself a length of 3x2'' timber thet fits under your chasis rail and learn how to put your Disco in extended height (lots of info on forum) or look at the Aussi gear ($700.00) that gives you automatic height adjustment. Ground clearance is what we all need more of especialy in the Disco3
8 - you may not need a snorkel if you have the above height enhancement - the Disco does a good job at wading at about 700mm plus at least another 50mm or so with the above. ALSO buy a cheap plastic Tarp ($10.) to use as a bonnet blind when crossing waterways and waterproof your 2 computers behind your battery or lets say passenger side battery location (again details on the forum)

As you can see for a few hundred dollars and some experience - the (off-road) world is your oyster

You will work out over time what sort of 4WDriving you are doing and what sort of extra specialist gear you need if any.

Don't get caught up with competing with fellow forum members on (unnesecary) accessories - join a club and learn what you and your D3 is capable of first.

That's some brilliant advice which I've taken note of. Thank you for sPending the time to give a very honest answer rather than just buy x, y, and z it is definitely appreciated given the amount of money I am already intending to spend just the initial purchase.
