Engine Noise - One Week In...

I swear my week old TDV6 SE is much noisier than the two HSE's I tested, I have not yet had the opportunity to visit a dealer and do a side by side listening but I distinctly recall the salesman pointing out just how quiet the diesel engine is.

I thought it may quieten down after a few miles, mine has not, I've done 980 miles in it's first week and if anything it's getting louder, it makes no difference if the engine is cold or hot.

Maybe it's the same but I'm more conscious as I'm deliberately listening. I don't mind the noise but to be honest it would be nice not to have the clattering.

So, from your experience is this normal, will it quieten down, should I seek technical advice from the LR boys.

Chris

Mine is just over 3 months old and now done 8,000 miles. The engine has never 'clattered'.
There are reports on this forum of more engine noise after the latest software upgrades, so maybe yours has this software level already.
I should get your dealer to check it out. You don't want to put up with something that may put a slight downer on your enjoyment of your new car.

Have you checked your oil level?

Mine now has 880 miles on it and I am always struck by how quiet it is apart from the lovely V6 roar when you up the revs a bit, however I am not comparing it to any other Discos.

I am now only just starting to drive it with a bit more vigour having given the kid glove treatment til now. Are you sure you are not just pushing a bit harder?

I agree with Matt - get it checked out rather than worry.

Thanks Matt / Justin,

I've now checked the oil all OK, in terms of driving hard, more like Driving Miss Daisy, I've been very considerate, no hard acceleration, no going over 3,000 revs.

LR techy it is then...

I dont go over 3,000 either, so guess you are right.

Let me know how you get on.

Sometimes I think that mine is noisier than other times.

I have put this down to the noise that the fan is or is not making.

On a hot day the fan tends to run faster and so you don't notice the engine at all. However, when the outside temperature is cool the fan runs very slowly and so make the engine sound noisy.
