Good Route needed Lakes area

Meeting up with a few mates in the lake district.

We all have 4x4 but they have not done much off road so looking for a nice user friendly route. Nothing to difficult green lane would be good.

it's ok for me in my D3 were used to going off road but not my mates.

and well lets face it don't want them getting stuck.

any idea where to go.?

Supergirl, my favourite route in our D3 or RRS is as follows :

Knipe Fold (GR 343 995) to Oxen Fell High Cross (GR 328 018) then continue straight accross the A593 to High Oxen Fell. Cross through the farm yard and out onto the lane to Hodge Close (GR 317 017). Well worth looking around the old slate quarries. Then turn right towards Stang End (GR319 028). The route used to turn left there and accross the river into Little Langdale. However I believe the ford has been closed. There is a route due West from the Ford that eventually crosses the river higher up, but I haven't driven that in the D3 yet (done it on a bike many times). The alternative is to turn East at Stang End and return to the A591. A short way South on the A591 brings you back to Oxen Fell High Cross from where you can retrace your route to Knipe Fold. This route feels very different in the oppisite direction.

As ever in The Lakes, go carefully. This route is all very firm, rocky tracks, so no worries about getting stuck in mud, or damaging the route, but there are some tricky rock steps and 2 very narrow gates and a couple of bits with vegetation growing into the route. Normal care needed, a route spotter advised, and no more than walking pace at times. Not many walkers on this route, but may well see some mountain bikers.

Enjoy.
