Dreaded clunk from front suspension ? |
|
I know this topic has come up before but I can't find it. I have the dreaded clunk from the front near side, especially when starting to reverse on right lock. It sounds and feels like someone has hit the chassis with a lump hammer. I changed the lower suspension arms with a kit from Advanced Factors last July. I have had the wheel off and tried to rattle everything by hand and nothing moves. Any ideas please ???
Thanks in advance.

If you suspect the lower wishbones have failed the best thing to do is get in there with a bar and try prizing at them. There is ALOT of weight sat on them so moving them by hand isn't likely to show much up.

D4 in my case. Did you find the cause?
I have changed the lower arms but also did the top front suspension arms too. Also from Advanced Factors (Meyle brand).
I have exactly same symptoms. When reversing full right lock I get a whine noise, particularly on slightly hill. All fixings correct torque, car tracked etc. I've double checked other fixings. No obvious cause.
I got a clunk dropping off kerb with just front left wheel. This is where sound is coming from. No wobble, vibrations on steering wheel, car drives smoothly and like a dream.
Thanks

Hello
I can feel no play on the wheel with it jacked up. It is very low mileage 38k. I'd be surprised if the wheel bearing has gone.
I was going to check the front most bolt torque for upper front suspension arm. It got torqued up correctly, new bolts. I'd need to remove wheel arch to access it from behind air suspension strut.
Other cars make a drone noise with failing WB. Nothing on any speed roads.
I was thinking drop links or ARB bushes? I can't detect any play when the front wheels are off the ground.
What do I you think?
