Yes I solved it. I contacted the original owner who said they had no knowledge of the speaker being taken out. I bought a second hand dual coil speaker from a dealer on Ebay. (Can't remember who.) I connected it up and it all worked as it should.
The speaker is a special design, you can't just fit anything in there. I originally tried a test with two speakers and it didn't work
The original owner had a fleet of Discoveries, he said that the CANBUS (or whatever the computer is) will automatically detects the correct speaker and sort out so it all works. He was right.
