Preheater constant burn when Below 5'C SAGA. |
|
Well, it looks like the saga is now resolved
Thursday I phoned then drove 60 miles to the dealership I use, they had received new software mid January and would have time to load the new software.
My pre-heater was firing for the whole journey (below 5'C ambient) and my MPG for the trip was 20.
The dealer only loaded software associated with the pre-heater.
The heater was firing as I left the garage but a check a mile or so later revealed it had stopped and the preheater exhaust was cold. If I stopped for a short while it would refire and stop when the engine reheated (ambient still below 5'C).
The reversed identical 60 mile route had given me 28 MPG an 8 MPG improvement.
Sadly still no MANUAL CONTROL though
Thanks for all your observations and suggestions.
Keep chatting.

I would say that you should be able claim against LR for lower MPG.

MM the D3 was never intended to have manual control of the FBH. If you search back you will see we have discussed this issue since day one. We did have a work round, but the enhancement stopped it. Webasto who make the heater have had enough problems, I seem to recall they do now have a solution at a price. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Mole Master, are you able to find out the details of the upgrade (TSB number or similar?) I'd be keen to have this done to my 06MY before I collect it on Thursday.
Cheers I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Westover Christchurch have confirmed that this update and all other relevant TSBs have been applied this week as part of the LRA pre-handover checklist. 50 hours and 15 minutes to go to permagrin!!!! Norway is at times a cold place and I miss my pre-heater as i had it in previous Defenders! Retrofit by importer - on/of switch and timer. Disco is late 2005 and she came with the timer text on the display. This was lost last spring with a program up-date. When winter came I experienced the nasty exhaust fumes smell and the consumption has increased to the degree I believe the Webasto must be running as long as the engine is. There was definatly a change in behaviour with the program update. The heater comes on irrespective of engine temp when starting the engine as long as the outdoor temp is below aprox. 5 C. I,m in for an oil change on Thursday and will raise the matter. Is there a program update after spring 2006? Tonga Green D3 TDV6 HSE Manual

The recent upgrade will fix it. Mine is a March 06 model and had the software done before I picked it up last week. The software on mine would have been the same as yours, so I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Slightly confused by this update.
Is this something that would need to be done to a MY07 car, or should it be there already. I ask becasue the FBH seems to be on more than it's off on my car.
cheers
