England 

Does the idea that the car is being switched off when it’s doing a DPF regen gold any water? I think it was on the RRS forum that this came up, other cars have a warning light come up when this is happening. Or is it a case that the code has been badly written controlling and calculating this?

I’m of the opinion that in this day and age with all the tech on the cars, the software should know that the car is going through a regen and disable stop/start.

I can’t understand how they managed to mess it up after the D4?

Didn’t the D4 euro 6 run out models have all the same emissions kit on? I don’t remember seeing people have any troubles with them.

I agree the software should be able to detect that a re-gen is happening. But I thought for a successful re-gen you'd have to drive above a certain speed (60 or 80 km/h ?) for at least 20-30 minutes. In which case stop/start is irrelevant as for that to kick in you're already well below the required speed?

LRCS told me you need to do 40mph for a minimum of 20minutes to do a DPF regen....
I do not have time to drive 20minutes down a motorway and 20minutes back... on top of a two hour daily commute. No way.

The car can regen at lower speeds just takes longer and this is where the failed regens can happen.

The cycle on the Velar at least is every 300km - 900km a regen will take place when speed is between 60 - 112km/h though can regen at speeds below 50km/h so long as the temperature is high enough.

Throwing this in the mix. If you need to do this you have bought the wrong car for your lifestyle.

I’m a low mileage user but in 10 LRs it’s only the D5 that’s ever caused an issue. Never had DPF issues only early service warning.

Thumbs Up I think we should be able to run whatever car we want to do whatever we want.
Im wondering if its a sign of the times ahead with car manufacturers. They have to get emissions down so have they based the hi tec emission controls on Mr Average miles or above and not catered for users that don't do the miles. I'm just saying, if you have to run up and down the motorway every week to clear the dpf perhaps you should go for a petrol?

Petrol will probably be my next choice, I do like the punch of the diesel though.

I just use the DPF as an excuse to go out and drive Laughing

First part of drive is a crawl- single track lane for 10-15 minutes.
Next is 30-50mph B roads for 20-30 minutes (slowing and stopping a numerous road junctions). Then a few blasts of 60-70mph for the remainder of the journey.
This journey is reversed at night.
I live in a relatively low population area with clear roads but obviously I can’t do 40 through a 30 zone.
Points don’t mean prizes 🤣🤣.
