Deregulation Bill - Possible impact on Green Lanes |
|
This arrived in the Inbox over the weekend. I have not had a chance to check it out, but if true has some worrying implications.
Quote:"On behalf of the Cotswold Motor Sport Group and Motor Sport in general, we need your help.
The Deregulation Bill is making its way through parliament at present.
It got through the Committee stage in The Commons without amendment (a
good thing!) but it is felt that The Lords may make changes and we need
to make our MP's aware that these changes without proper consultation
are not good.
The "antis" are highly active on the issue - promoting a
blanket ban - and we (motor sport fraternity) need to make our voices
heard too. The potential is to lose all vehicular access to all places
that do not have an asphalt road. Goodbye to Classic Trials, Goodbye to
Car Trials as we use gravel tracks to get to the fields that they use,
Goodbye to some stage rallies and Goodbye to some road rallies and
endurance rallies. No more responsible green laning. The list goes
on. Motor Cycles are likely to be even worse hit and the TRF (Trail
Rider Fellowship), AMCA (Amateur Motorcycle Association) and others are
also on the case.
Attached are two documents. Please adjust the 'MP's covering letter' to
suit your particular views and ensure it has your personal address on
it. Please then enclose it with the two sheet LARA Factsheet, and post
it to your local MP as soon as you reasonably can.
LARA have been working very hard for us on this subject for the last few
months and, having held back until now, they say now is the time to pull
the trigger and hit the MP's with as many letters from individuals as
possible. LARA would like to hear of the response from your MP, please;
but for the time being, please keep that info, and they'll let you know
where to send it in due course.

Just one thought (at the moment)
Surely 'any' motor sport event that is on private land, with the owners full permission and consent would not be affected, i.e. the various motorcycle trail events, and car rallies around the country
I would have thought any legislation can only affect roads, tracks and rights of way that are highways and local authority controlled
I'm very in favour of green lanes, or RUPPS and BOATS and other Byways being open for all to use, walkers, horses and vehicles alike (with appropriate controls to ensure that they are used in a responsible way) so that all can enjoy 'their' particular pursuit Never get mad - get even !!
06 D3 now gone to family member and still going strong at 265k
previous vehicles:
04 D2 TD5 - (clocked 189k from new)
52 X-Trail 2.2 SVE
various euro boxes !

This is sadly true, the Bill is sitting in the house of commons now; next stage lords could see the end of lanes for motorised vehicles by October 2014. The legislation is mixed in with the coalitions move to reduce red tape so this could have come in by stealth.
Please contact your local MP and include the LARA briefing sheet for reference.
Anyone who is interested in keeping the rights of way open for vehicle PM or Email me (buttons below) and I will happily send you a letter template (MS Word) and LARA briefing sheet (pdf).
Thanks
George
PS Don't rely on anyone else doing this, if you think someone else will be doing it and everyone may think that way then say good bye to legal greenlining for the foreseeable future! Club N.E.R.D.s
