This is fast being a comedy sketch section but deffo Discovery is NOT Brilliant, better than D3/4 ? Yes only in some areas .Obviously 'What Car ' don't think so either as Q7 is better all round vehicle considering it couldn't get close to older Discos for years, rest my case.

But would you buy a Q7? I certainly wouldn't!
If they had done a "test" with a D4 against the old Q7, then the D4 would have lost badly I am afraid.
I do agree this has become a comedy section seemingly used by those who do not wantt o buy or like a D5 but enjoy posting comments about it!!

I thought that on another thread Martin had kindly requested the D5 haters refrain from banging on about what a hateful, uncomfortable, ugly, disastrous piece of sh the D5 was. I respect that... and consequently, have stopped saying any more on the matter.
Besides, I’m convinced that if we all say nothing, those who need constant reassurance that they haven’t stupidly wasted their money, will quickly get bored and move on to another site.

I thought that the combined wisdom here was that no journalists opinion should be counted as they are so beholden to the freebies and junkets that they don't want to upset the manufacturers. I obviously missed that bit that it only applies when they are positive about the D5

from robpenrose Maybe I misunderstood the bit he was agreeing with.
In all seriousness I think people need to have a word with themselves and not take themselves quite so seriously. I personally enjoy the banter, I fully agree I have wasted a chunk of money as anyone who is stupid enough to buy a new car is, it is really just a question of how much. I think as long as it does not cross the line into personal abuse as it has done from time to time, it adds to the richness of the debate to have different opinion. Even the ones that are so binary they cannot stand any positivity or negativity are entertaining.
I am not sure my very presence should offend, just because I post on another forum and I will try and respond objectively to any question or provide feedback. If that is the case then I am happy to stop as "I have been thrown out of better places than this before".
I am not sure a mix of "100% happy clappers" and "100% the D5 is the son of Satan" is actually of interest to anyone.

Not to mention that there's hardly any improvements on fuel consumption on a D5 tdv6 3.0!
That was the main reason i was waiting for and contemplating changing my D4 for D5. With all the hype about huge weight loss with the aluminium chassis we were expecting better results....
If it only was a handsome car
LR will have to offer the "dynamic pack", which makes it look much better, for free to boost sales otherwise they'll be in trouble.
If the D5 had been what me & a whole bunch of others expected I would probably have bought one...my D3 is 10 years old.
Nobody really knew just what it would be like.....functions...we had a few peeps at the shape...
Nobody (on here) really knew about the tailgate or the compromised inside.
I, with many others on here thought (& hoped) the D3/4 replacement would build on the strengths of what went before...to me it hasn't.
I was looking for load carrying, comfort for second row seats & towing capability....the split tailgate was also important to me
I'm not into buying (anything) before I saw..I have had numerous road tests & had the immediate family with me....they aren't enamoured either...provision of rear seat comfort is fundamental.
So It doesn't suit me...so that's that...realistically these issues aren't going to be resolved by tweaks or facelifts. I'm not at all bothered about style, looks or gadgets.
Those who have bought & are happy - I'm pleased for.
I'll stick with what I've got.....maybe it's a FFRR.BREXIT - done properly.

In fairness to the OP, the choice of thread title seems to be a reaction to the large number of bad comments about D5 from D3/4 owners.
Probably overly fair as he boasts of his disruptive antics over on the D5 forum. He may even have forgotten that the D5 forum is an open forum that can be read by all. Not sure why he is doing what he is doing as it is out of character from his postings over many years of membership.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

28mpg running around the town as opposed to 22mpg with the D4. The 3.0 doesn't have the massive weight loss, that's the 2.0 SD4

Three trips of around 1700 miles each up to Moray and around there averaged 31 mpg in D4 over last three years. Average around town here is 28mpg. That is brimming the tank not using computer figures.2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.

Actually my mind is on totally other things right now...
Spent Sunday night to Tuesday afternoon in hospital.....follow on from a previous health issue
Came to hospital today & had MRI & CT scans....then admitted.
I have to either radiotherapy or surgery on part of my spine...
Not a happy bunny.
I read almost all that's been written on my ne D5..... I only add the odd comment or agree with others.
I stay out of the forbidden D5 zone.BREXIT - done properly.

Now that is important, and all the best for the treatment. I really meant this place is better with your views on it, even if I don't always agree.
All the best from me with what ever you need to go through.

Well J77, you have a heavy foot. I do 28mpg around town (computer reading).
That's a bit of humour with a serious point; the D5 is quite expensive already for most and without the dynamic pack it doesn't look as attractive. So it would be a clever move from LR to offer the pack, making it feel better value and better looking!
