So the D5 should be with us in October...think I’m looking forward to it!
it’s coming with the deployable tow bar...How good is it compared to the fixed d4 version?Mike

Over here it’s dreadful and the D4 towbar is far superior.
Over there it’s brilliant and the D4 can’t touch it.

Presumably it's the same bar as fitted to the FFRR and RRS. Haven't heard people moaning about those.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Lots of reports of them stopping halfway through deploument or retraction.
We were advised to steer clear as they have left people stranded.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Lol...I did wonder that but our d5 complete with ugly is coming will need to sell the d4 soon
Thanks I heard that some people have had them fail, although it will be used weekly, it’s got warranty etc so if it breaks it will be fixed.
Just mindful of a full stock trailer or ifor, I like the d4 fixed 250kg nose weight etc hoped the deployable performed the sameMike

The warranty is not much use if it fails when you are trying to hitch up miles from anywhere.

I had a good laugh at the first few posts!
If you’re going to be using it seriously, bear in mind that the payload is limited to 1 tonne “off road” (however they define that) and you won’t have a choice of hitches, or be able to use a protection plate for your rear bumper.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4

Not sure where you get that info from as I cannot find that in the on line manual or the hard copy manualMY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Here’s the instruction for the very similar item on the Fatty - 2nd paragraph down, on the right hand column:
2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Nothing I have foun in the on line manual as per below
TOWING WEIGHTS
Maximum permissible towing weights Variant kg
Unbraked trailer. All vehicles. 750
Trailer with overrun brakes. All vehicles except 2.0L Diesel 132 kW. 3 500
2.0L Diesel 132 kW. 3 000
Unrestricted trailer nose weight.¹ All vehicles except Eco. 150
Eco vehicles. 100
Restricted trailer nose weight.² Electrically deployable tow ball towing a trailer with overrun brakes. 350
Detachable tow ball towing a trailer with overrun brakes. 195
Trailer hitch tow ball towing a trailer with overrun brakes. 350
Multi-height tow ball towing a trailer with overrun brakes. 350
Tow ball mounted accessories. All vehicles. 66.8
Make sure to never exceed the Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), the Gross Train Weight (GTW), or the front and rear axle weights. See WEIGHTS.
NOTES
Include the trailer's nose weight when calculating the GVW and the rear axle weight.
NOTES
When calculating the vehicle's rear axle weight, the vehicle's payload weights must also be considered. Include the combined weights of all the rear passengers, the loadspace, roof rail, accessory equipment, and the trailer nose weight. The combined weights must never exceed the GVW or the maximum weights for the front and rear axles.
NOTES
Make sure to observe and comply with the legal requirements for the country in which the vehicle is travelling.
NOTES
¹ When towing in the European Union (EU), the maximum GVW can be increased by 100 kg. The vehicle's maximum road speed is then limited to 97 km/h (60 mph). In this event, the maximum trailer nose weight is 150 kg when the vehicle is in its fully laden condition.
NOTES
² The restricted maximum trailer nose weight only applies to trailers with overrun brakes. Make sure that the GVW, the GTW, and the maximum rear axle weight limits are not exceeded when applying the trailer nose weight. If required, reduce the weight of the vehicle's payload.
For further information, contact a retailer/authorised repairer and quote the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). See LABEL LOCATIONS.
2.0L ENGINES:
Engine power output always reduces with increased altitude. At 1 000 m above sea level, and for every extra 1 000 m, deduct 10% from the GTW.
AUSTRALIA ONLY:
The trailer nose weight must be a minimum of 7%, but must not exceed 10%, of the gross caravan or trailer weight.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Why would anyone want to add a nose weight of 250kg? I often tow a large Ivor Williams twin axle and the biggest Brian James Cargo both sit at there own height and then are loaded so only to give around 100kgs noise weight, this gives a very easy towing experience and easy hitching, I will add only ever load static loads not live stock.
The Brian Williams is a big trailer you don’t notice it much until you try to turn in narrow lanes or reversing round cornersDiscovery 3 HSE 07

You’re right there Russell and I’m wrong - I’ve just been out and checked in the D5’s manual and there’s no repeat of the advice in the FF’s manual and it’s brochure.
How odd, considering it’s the same platform and the deployable tow bars are virtually identical 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
