Likewise , particularly after seeing the Red 5.0 D4 🤣, wonder what the extra cost is to get them from Southampton to ur own house as I assume they do a to ur door service

Plus think the rear locking diff came as standard on the 5.0 ?

There’s lots of online guides and videos about importing cars from Japan and what needs to be done and when.

I’ve never done it, but I’ve been tempted a few times over the years.

I have looked at importing a series 3 Daimler Double 6 in the past but felt a little overwhelmed at the procedure.
Some of the cars from Japan are in immaculate condition and low miles.

I may look again.

Remember many moons ago my dad belonged to the institute of transport , we had a visit to the jaguar factory , whilst walking around watched a guy very skilfully put in the wood inlays for the dashboards etc

Then onto the seats being made , had a whole new admiration for the Daimlers and jaguar vehicles of what went into making them

Plus looking at the prices for 5.0 D4 being around 18k seems a lot cheaper than some sellers asking around 30k , that’s of course if that’s the final price

Here’s a nice one for u Whistle

Remember that VAT and Duty have to be paid, which in part is a double taxation:

This link is a good explanation:

I don’t know if that’s still the current situation and of course it could change in the future.

Many thks and to be honest didn’t realise there was this much to import a vehicle
Ref

Shipping charge. This is usually based on the number of cubic meters of space the car occupies and is paid to the shipping company when the car arrives. The customs clearance agent will sort this for you if you use one.
Shipping insurance, if you choose to have this.
UK import agent commission or UK car dealer profit.
UK port fees.
UK customs clearance agent fees.
Import duty, charged at 5-10 % of FOB price + shipping. See this article for more information on import duty.
VAT, charged at 20 %.
Transport from port to home in the UK.
Work involved in fitting a fog light and converting the speedometer if you choose to do so. More work may be required for cars under 10 years old going for an IVA test.
MOT (or IVA) test fee.
Registration fee.
Car tax (vehicle excise duty).
Number plates.

The interest in D4 V8s has peaked my interest, but I need to do some research in the total running cost comparison with a post 2017 4.4TDV8 L405 and D300 110.
Fuel, Tax, Insurance, etc.

Unofficial imports of models never supplied to the home market always attract a higher insurance premium. Sad

Nasher, pm me if you’d like to discuss real world running costs of a 4.4 SDV8. Thumbs Up

About 1k to insure for me last year, which in the current market wasn't too bad ..... Volvo is circa £330.

I decided best not to go and visit the car for fear of lack of self control. Thankfully it sold at circa 24k

I've done a thousand or so miles on these defender wheels on 255/60/18's, I think a nice alternative. They are tight as expected and I'm yet to fit new discs and pads but I'm pleased so far. Only a few mm of space at best to the caliper, would be interesting to see how much room the compomotives give.

if it helps i had a 2011 L322 4.4 TDV8 and it cost me 5k in maintence in one year! radiator went followed by alternator, followed by rear dampers and then final blow was blower motor!

i am hoping a low mileage rust free disco 4 will be less trouble! maybe i am kidding myself lol!

Thanks paul n, but how much of that was parts?
I would do all of that myself so it would be much cheaper than that.
