So happy just picked up my D3 yesterday from having it converted to LPG. Have the Prinns system with valve care fitted. A very very tidy install. Drove back to Yorkshire from Milton Keynes last night and loved every mile. Will post pictures tomorrow.D3 V8 SE LPG

Hi MPG will be very similar to petrol, pay back will depend on millage but I just paid 53.6p per litre for LPG rather than £1.17p per litre for petrol. If you do 10,000 miles a year it takes 2 years to make the savings. I looked at it as part of the cost in buying the car. Conversion was £2600 for the Prinns system 2 years warranty and the garage I used has been doing it for a long time and they know what they are doing. When you look under the bonnet it is such a tidy job you cant see much difference. There are cheaper options but you need valve care with the 4.4 V8 so be careful. Prinns is the RR of gas conversions.
I will add pictures tomorrow once I have washed it D3 V8 SE LPG

Wish they had this LPG conversion package in the USA. Would do it to both of our D3's.

I don't see the point in LPG. If you are bothered about fuel prices just buy a log burner in the first place.
Payback above doesn't include the fact of it will need new heads at some point.05 V8 HSE Bonatti Grey
I have run plenty of vehicles on LPG as a fellow V8 owner I am sure you will understand there is a lot more refinement over the TDV6. Will keep you posted about the heads but with the valve care package, I am hoping this will take care of that issue and personally I prefer LPG less nasties in the emissions.D3 V8 SE LPG

Hey dragonoak4x4 don't believe all you hear about VSR. I have an '05 D3 that has had LPG fitted from new by the first owner.
Only last year did any problems show up that were put down (by me) to VSR i.e. low cylinder compressions and valve clearances out of adjustment. Upon removal of the heads no significant valve or valve seat damage was found beyond that which might be expected for and engine of this age. (I had the valve clearances adjusted and the valves 'lapped in' by an engineering works).
If I'd taken it to the LPG specialists (LPG specialist because they understand LPG systems and V8 engines) they would have adjusted the valve clearances, which is all that was really needed though another problem with the LPG, which was causing the MIL to light (and which initiated the whole investigation into probable VSR) was down to the LPG injectors being clogged by Sulphidation or similar, in the end they needed replaced.
Only wish we could get Autogas for as little as 53.9p, it costs me 60.9p at my nearest outlet.
That's cool I didn't tell you we have a local farmer who sells LPG as well but he charges 45p but don't call after dark
And we also have a lovely log burner

On the other hand you could not believe all you are told about them not suffering from VSR, its a known issue with this engine, expect new heads at around 60-80.000 miles (valve lub may help), mine had new heads literally days before I brought because of VSR, it had done 85,000 since installation.
I cant find it at present but there is a document from one of the bigger LPG kit manufacturers that actually says expect VSR to start to show around 60.000 miles on the AJ V8 engine.
As for MPG I have never known any of the LPG motors I have owned return the same mpg on LPG as petrol, current one averages 15ish on LPG and 17ish on petrol.
Best place for LPG is the Midlands, quite a few places sub 50p and when I was in Leicester in November it was 41.5p, locally it was 58p today.==================================

Cant' comment on VSR although some comments in other threads have been wildly off the mark in thier assumptions, I guess time will tell!
I am lucky in that I have the only ASDA in the south that has LPG and at 49p near me. Also ASDA LPG does not brng up the engine light unlike the 69p Shell Autogas!Series 1 V8

Mine had 110000ml on the clock and as I said, when the heads were off, VSR wasn't evident. Valves lapped in and clearances adjusted.
Can I ask Mogwyth, did you see your heads when they were off? Was VSR very evident or might you have got away with valve clearance adjustment? Just I feel some times garages will replace rather than rework, a head, and then it costs you an arm and a leg.
I've heard the tales of others, having new heads due to VSR, but after my personal experience I just wonder.

Burn wood it burns hotter. We use our to heat 16 radiators upstairs and 4 down stairs. Wood burns so much better than coal. But we bank it up with coal on a night D3 V8 SE LPG
