Strangely enough, I find the ETA to be pretty accurate - even if I don't use the route it tells me!
The point is that the ETA is a dynamic figure which changes according to your speed. If you go through a town at an average of perhaps 20mph the the ETA can creep up by as much as an hour. Once back on the 60/70mph route the ETA drops back to where it should be.
I recall a long trip from Aberdeen to Droitwich last year where upon departing, the sat-nav said I'd arrive at 10.15pm. Along the route, the ETA varied wildly, but I arrived at the destination at 10.20pm. Not a bad original estimate across nearly 450 miles. 8)The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

As far as the salesman could tell me it was the same satnav and current disk.
Don't buy a D4 off him then because it's totally different software run from a hard drive not a disc 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

are you sure it's not adjusting the time on your clock so it's always accurate? one wife.......livid
Positive - The only thing that does that is the time travel module which is fitted to FFRRs........ The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

It's not useless, but it's not great and when you consider the cost of it, it should be amazing! I think tomtom is much much better.
However would I buy a D3 without out it? No, I don't like loads of other stuff cluttering up the dashboard. So I'll keep it and moan that it could be better. If I could run tomtom on the same screen then that would be awesome!D3 HSE MY05 Auto

So if it's on a hard drive, how do you update the maps on it, need a long usb lead to connect it to me PC indoors so I can update it like I would me TomTom I have something to say! It's better to burn out... than to fade away!

The ETA's seem to be calculated by distance to the destination as the crow flies. I find that tomtom eta use the average speed of the roads used to calculate the eta. I think it uses a figure around 65mph for the motor way and probably 20 mph around town etc. then you tend to get a much better eta. If it chages so much based on your currant speed then when going through a village it calcuates the rest of your journey at 25mph then it's never going to much use. I think the land rover is ok, but I think tomtom is better for far less money.D3 HSE MY05 Auto

And I gather you just pay a yearly subscription to update it then. Also wondering if it will support speed cameras and if they will get updated on a live basis like some speed camera apps do.I have something to say! It's better to burn out... than to fade away!

I think the reason for the hard drive is so it's not so easy for copies of the nav software to be made and you'll have to visit land rover to get your system updated, as a cost ofcourse.
That's just what I think they'll do. It would be great to see them allow users to update info and share info between users ie swap poi's etc, but I doubt it will happen D3 HSE MY05 Auto

Ref the A34 - i have exactly the same problem when in my MY08 travelling from brum or north, but in SWMBO's MY06 - it always give the direct A34 route! overall i have found the MY06 'version' to be better alround - so I guess that makes everybody right - they are very good AND very bad!

Sorry DG I think I was posting when you posted that! No need to shout!
I knew there would be a way of doing that stopped users from doing it! I also knew it would involve a cost - unlike tomtom with free updates!
DaveM - I've got the 2009 disc and noticed the A34 with that, not sure if it used to do that with my original 2004 disc.D3 HSE MY05 Auto
