Cracked pipe, should I worry?
One of the large black rubberised pipes that goes into the top of the engine, into a black box just on the top front of the Diesel engine (TDV6) Just behind the fan moulding has a nice fat 3-1/2inch crack on it.
I have no idea what this pipe does, what it goes into, if i should be worried or stop driving it immediately and book it in?
I can't see any leaking, air leak or anything.. it looks like its just the rubber skin that has cracked due to the cold. I have marked the edges of the crack to see if it is growing.
I hope some one here will know exactly what I am on about otherwise ill have to take a picture tomorrow.
is it the pipe marked as Air Duct B in the pic below ?

If yes - it is the air duct from the filter to the engine. I would get it replaced asap to avoid dirt and dust entering the engine.
Or is it the pipe (with no label) behind the airduct ? I think that is one of the turbo pipes ? they are prone to splitting. You will definitely want to get that seen to quickly as you will have loss of power, smoke and a host of engine faults. The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Damn. I had a feeling it was turbo related.
Yes its the one behind A. Going into the black box behind the shroud.
forum sponsor Pete Bell (bellautos) does upgraded silicon hoses. Not that much more than LR OEM replacements I think. The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Put Gaffa tape over the crack so you can still drive it, then get a replacement pipe which is about £50 for a LR one or about £80 for a much better spec Silicone Hose from Pete @ Bell Auto Services Bodsys Brake Bible

Understood. I will gaffer the hell out of tomorrow morning. It looks like its only the skin that's cracked, as if there is another layer of protection underneath so should be ok till it gets replaced.
