Thanks for the replies. GVW has hit the problem on the head. GL great for most panels. Front panels that take the hammering need a really good effort. Engineer suggested that Silky will slightly "cut back" and the wash off with water. Must be worth a try.

And another for Greased Lightning.

I have never dared to stand on the roof of my van, its not that I'm a lardy ( Whistle ), but dont want to find out the hard way the roof wont take my weight.

I noticed a lot of you like using Greased Lightning for cleaning car and caravan.
Is Greased Lightning a silicone base product and does it leaves a slimy touch on your hands please?

A bit late in the day to be replying to this. Haven't noticed greasy hands after using GL and think it is a great product - can be used on all sorts of surfaces and is very good at tar removal.

If the caravan/car is very dirty I would, though, first give a quick water wash to remove anything which could potentially scratch the surface when using GL. Important to use clean microfibre cloths and to keep changing as you progress to avoid risk of swirl marks or worse.

I use Greased Lightening all over the outside of the caravan and also for the inside of the windows, I usually unlock them and lift them up from the outside to do them and then treat the rubber seal with Autoglym vinyl/rubber care, stops it sticking as my brother in law ripped the rubbers on his van after winter storage.

For doing the roof I use an extendable pole with an 8 inch polishing pad on and spray the roof and then polish off.

Also take a bottle of GL with me when I tow as the Disco throws a lot of spray up the van if its wet, so usually end up doing it again when get to site.

Has anyone any ideas on what to use on the front of a swift challenger. It is covered with black marks that won't polish off and the gel coat is all dull,,
I have had loads of caravans, looked after them well but not had any problems like this.
I've polished with Merrose and Autoglym but it won't shift it,

Cheers

Best use for Silky is where the van hasn't been given a good clean for a long time, particularly the roof. It's non abrasive although does remove pollen spots, fly Censored , algae, and similar crud. It's also quite cheap and a little goes a long way. http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/none-silky-cre...tAodsysAvQ

I use a damp Meguiars pad to apply it http://www.amazon.co.uk/Meguiars-Soft-Foam...guiars+pad

Once you've given it a go with Silky and rinsed it off, then give it a nice soft wax finish - Greased Lightning is by far the best.

I use Auto Glym products including a base shine coat. I then wash with the AG shampoo, use AG caravan and M/home cleaner to remove streaks and super resin polish if it's stubborn. Looks like a new van. Oh yeah it is a new van. I'm sure the fun will run out eventually but there's something about a huge white panel that just needs polishing. Rolling Eyes
