A remap can certainly give big improvement in performance and allow the EGRs to be blanked on EU4 vehicles, and I would highly recommend it as a whole.
However, the phrase "blank off the fault codes..." makes me wary (don't know if this was your or his phrasing?), the reason being, that there are good and bad methods of removing the EGRs from the system, and a bad, known method is to remove various fault codes from the system. This may not be what was meant specifically though. Thanks for the speedy response! That was probably my bad interpretation of what he said! He's an ex Landrover master tech and is very knowledgeable so I'm sure he meant the 'proper' way to do it and not what I described. I'll ask him which remap he had in mind. I know he is at dealer level with the Autologic diagnoses stuff etc.
He's replacing the two timing belts and inserting a poly bush for me as well in the future.
Thanks again...

Poly bushes must be fitted in pairs unless one has failed, in which case ISTR they are guaranteed for life. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Yeah, my bad, don't keep up 100% with autologic stuff.
Especially now. Big changes with AL, not not for the better, IMHO

Thanks fellas. I'll ask him about the remap and let you know. I'm not bothered about increased mpg but was told certain remaps will increase performance and are also a good way to sort/overcome the potential EGR valve fault that apparently we all have to expect at some point? A bit more poke would be great as I've just moved from a 3.5L V6 petrol engine...

Had someone else tell me to just replace the EGR valves when they fail rather than remap the engine/blank off/remove etc. Thoughts/comments anyone? I haven't any problems yet but just planning ahead!!
Your engine breathes only fresh air
They can't fail again so more convenient and can't leave you in a potentially dangerous situation
Lower particulate matter emmisions
No need to remove the valve(s) - just fit shims/plates
Possible increase in MPG
Cheaper in the long term
Cons:
Increase in NOx of debatable magnitude and importance
