So winter is approaching & I was thinking about protecting the icemaiden through the winter. Seems a stage 1 polish & ceramic paint protection is the way to go. anybody have experience of this or suggest a better solution?
In the past i'd have cracked on myself but since i screwed both my wrists in an accident any form of manual or DA polishing is out of the question.

I tried the meguiars ceramic hybrid wax last year on a nice e46 BMW 330ci I have. I made sure the paintwork was clayed properly before applying (you apply it as regular dry spray on polish for the first coat) then after washing, you give the panel a spray whilst still wet and wipe in with a microfibre cloth.
To be honest, it worked well and the water just tumbled of after that, even after a few weeks of rain and the car sitting on the drive. The finish was nice and it was easy to maintain, applying whilst wet and wiping off. But the car never really saw any dirty miles like my D4 does (its a low mileage car that is only outside and briefly used in the summer) so cant comment how good it is on a daily car.
I wouldn't say it was much better than something like AG aqua-wax tbh, the meguiars seems to last the same amount of time, is not as shiny and is more expensive.
Im sure its not as good as these full ceramic treatments, but for me. Ive always seemed to go back to AG wash, SRP and top up with Aqua-wax. Once in a while you read about something said to be revolutionary and try something new to see if Im missing out.
One of the best wax’s that really lasts but is hard work, is Colinite 476 - think Noah used it on the Ark tbh. Its been around for ages, a proper job to put it on and take off. But honestly, its seems to last 6 months rather than 6 weeks and its cheap with enough to last you a few years!2013 Baltic Blue D4 - a balance between family car and camping machine - trying to not bladder it with stuff I dont need!

Fantastic reply and food for thought. I'm still thinking with the right product it's as good as a paid for application. Just, need to convince my lad he should do it,.!

I use a ceramic coating and I have to say, it’s bloody brilliant!!
I use this once every two years…
Then use this once every six months…
We use our truck to provide private tours of the NC500 and the paintwork has to look good every day. The ceramic coating keeps it Uber clean, always shiny and gives the truck a deep lustre. When I do wash it, I don’t use a shampoo that contains wax as the wax will sit on the ceramic coating and stop the coating from doing its thing (you need a pure shampoo which Autoglym makes).
The ceramic coating takes some effort to apply properly though!
1. Wash the truck to remove debris.
2. Clay bar to remove tar spots etc
3. Wash car
4. Wipe over a panel at a time with isopropanol alcohol to remove any residues of wax etc
5. Buff panel to a shine (any marks you leave on the panel will be encapsulated by the ceramic coating which is bad!!!)
6. Apply ceramic coating as per manufacturers instructions)
7. Buff panel with a wool mop on a polisher (manual method of course can be used but it’s knackering)
8. Repeat for rest of truck
9. Don’t let the truck paintwork get wet for 2 days, you need time for the solvent in the coating to flash off.
Vola!! A beautifully shiny truck that stays looking wonderful for ages. And if it does get covered in sh## it washes off really easily leaving another shiny surface once again- month after month after month!
I'll probably take the swirls out with a stage 1 polish, clay bar & from there on follow your process NC500

Not done it on the D4 but we have it on our Audi B7 Convertible.
I have to say it is fantastic on that. Dirt washes off very easily and water beads and runs off when it is clean.
The sheen/shine is amazing...Jim

2016 Discovery 4 HSE Lux SDV6 Loire Blue - now gone
So the weather looked dry for a couple of days & in the absence of anywhere under cover to apply this stuff I took the plunge.
1. SnowFoam wash
2. It started to rain
3. It stopped
4. Clay Barred the paintwork
5. One stage polish with Chemical Guys VSS
6. Worked on each panel cleaning with rubbing Alcohol first
7. Applied C1, removed any excess, & left for 3 hours
8. Applied EXO V4 & left overnight
Pleased with the results so far, paintwork is nice & smooth & swirls removed. The coatings have given some depth to the paint, it might ha been better if I dedicated another day to the whole process & applied additional coats. That said, it's had to tell on white because of the reflection. Time will tell how well the stuff weathers.

Hi Nick
Must say that looks awesome , credit to u mate
Did u use a polishing machine plse , must admit often read about ceramic coatings but was always worried of messing it up
Plus bless u for link, very useful as keep meaning to get a snowfoam gun , did get a dual action polisher from Flex , used it on my plastic bumpers using the meguires ultimate black , plus rebadged mine
Thks again for sharing
Ps, just seen that g tech on Amazon, larger 50 ML bottle £50
I bought both C1 & EXO in 50ml bottles, together they cost £95. EXO from Amazon & C1 from IODetail. I used about 60% of the C1 & about 75% of the EXO. The C1 has a 3 month shelf life once open apparently, so I should have applied either a more liberal coating or a second coat I think.
I used a Guild DA polisher I bought on offer a few years ago from Argo for £30. Seem to work well enough, better than the Silverline orbital one I had which I was always worried I'd burn the paint with.
I used a Orange Quantum Hex Logic PAD as the paint wasn't that bad, just needed prep for the C1 really.
I do like the snow foam spray. makes a lovely well snowy mess but I only use it as a prewash. I bought THIS a while back which is good quality & works well, decent price at the moment with the voucher at £15.39 for prime members too.
I could probably have done a better job if I'd taken more time.
I'll post a few more pictures once the car has got wet, dirty etc.

Seems manufacturers use different colours, must admit I always thought it was like a universal thing to use the the same colour for a particular cleaning process, as been trying to find a chart but alas haven’t found one yet what shows what colour should be used for what job
Pic of the of using that meguires black polish for the trim
Next job will be to replace the waist window trims, have read there’s some screws inside holding them on, alas haven’t looked yet , also the external B and C trims have faded , would like to either replace them if possible or spray them , have got 4 x of the waist trims and just need to get round replacing them
Must also add that a kind member done a full clean of the disco a few years back for me , was so grateful to him
Thks again nick for the awesome info

What do use or recommend for the black plastic scuttle panel under the front wipers, mine is a lighter shade of grey!! The rest of the black plastic is pretty good.2013 Baltic Blue D4 - a balance between family car and camping machine - trying to not bladder it with stuff I dont need!
