LR Disco 3- SE- Auto -2006- urgent Bonnet not opening

Hi Folks, Sorry to do this on a Sunday but can someone please PM how to get the bonnet open when the cable is not working.
I pull on the cable and it snaps back into place, no resistance, no click.

I can't drive the thing as the battery is flat, I cant jump-start the battery as I can't open the bonnet.
I can't even put it into neutral as it is an automatic and the handbrake is electric

Catch 22

Stuck in a village in the middle of nowhere in Normandy so the nearest garage is about 50 miles away

You can charge it by connecting to tow bar electrics or to starter motor from below.

Someone said AA did it through number plate lights but I think that only works if lights are on.

Hi folks,

problem resolved
thanks Hardman, I gave the info to the garage and they followed most of your advice. Nothing was broken in the process!!

Anyway the battery was completely dead, apparently the same battery since 2006! Pretty unbelievable. I should have seen this coming.
The time on the odometer was blank eventhough the time on the radio was correct.
Following the installation of a new battery (French Ford Dealer he knew a lot about Land rover engines and batteries), all is back to normal, touch wood.

Can be quite tricky.
Can you feel if the cable is still attached to the internal lever but jammed or very stiff ? If the cable is broken then the internal lever in the footwell will move very easily against its weak spring with no sensation that anything is being pulled. If cable still attached then you'll feel tension or resistance when trying to swing the lever.
If the cable remains intact then there's hope that by bouncing the bonnet above the catches while pulling carefully on the lever (two-man job) or by squirting WD40 onto the locks each side under the bonnet (squirt using red tube carefully aimed between the grille slats), then you'll get the locks moving again.
If the cable seems broken then send me PM for next steps.
Cheers Smile))

Hi KPVT8,

Thanks for the advice. It appears the cable itself is loose or broken. No resistance at all. Can we DM for some next steps?

I actually took off the lever and checked. The cable does not retract. I can pull on it with some pliers, but it will not move
