battery woes

after working on some radio installations for a few hours this afternoon I finally checked my work and went to move the d3 back to its park place

clunk .... dead battery

or very low volts .. too low for the starter

measureing it I am seeing 11,1V!

turning the ignition on lowers that to 9,5!

to be honest as the G4 came via LR I am not sure its the right part fitted

can someone take a picture of their battery and part no. so I can check.

not sure what capacity it is.

thats the second time ive flattened it and for no real reason - the radios take abt 1Ah and was on for mayb 3-4

should not have dented it.

Big Cry

off to iceland friday so this needs changed fast if its gubbed!

I dont need let down up there!!!!

Simon

ohh if it is dead and the vehicle is in warranty - does warranty cover batteries??

Yes, Warranty covers batteries. The battery will drain in about 3-1/2 hours if the ignition is on (or if the ignition is in it still stays alive)

You need an extra YellowTop battery to run it all from..... Smile

on petrol car the batterie is a 75ah and on a diesel it's a 100ah, something like that.
By the way mine is always down when i'm working in it. Meaby less problem since interior lighting is always switched "off".
But always after 5 days of staying in a parking, impossible to start only with the main batterie. So i connect the IBS with the yellow optima and it goes.
And LR tested and says "no problem the batterie is almost like a new" so ... the problem persist.

Although it says nothing to warn you about in the handbook - if you just leave the key in the ignition you will very soon have a flat battery. After seven hours I had insufficient power even to close windows. Dealer reckons battery would have been flat after only a couple of hours.

I seem to recall TFC saying that the drain on the battery can be between 10 and 24A whilst the key is in the ignition as it keeps most of the car (including the 500W+ stereo system) alive. That would be enough to flatten even the most determined battery in a short time. The fact that the key is inserted yet not turned makes no difference; the amps are flowing. I'm sure if you need more, TFC will correct my recollections with the real deal Wink
