My D3 battery is now 5 yrs old, and is Ok at the moment, but last winter it cranked the engine noticeably slower at -8 deg C, so rather than be stuck this year, just in case, I picked a LR018609 battery up from TLO. As mentioned in other posts the LR battery is still 90 amp hr, but the CCA has been upped to 950 now (was 825), so may be an improvement.

The 017TE Exide at 900CCA on that link will obviously do the job, but I don't think I'd risk one of the others with CCAs of 830 and 850.
LR recognised the D3 needs more so currently spec a 950CCA battery.

One thing to take into consideration when choosing a non-oem battery is the high charging voltage the D3/4 can generate, not all batteries can take it over an extended period of time. Club Exped trailer

Guess I'm joining the merry band of early D3 owners needing a new battery (54 plate)
Any issues with just swopping over -I've no fault codes as yet just poor starting/lumpy running for few minutes.
Thanks Richard

Just a note about comparing the CCA of batteries. There are two standards of measuring and quoting the cold cranking current, SAE and EN. I don't know which variant Land Rover quote in their specs, but the Varta Silverline shown on the Tayna website on the face of it appears to not have a high enough CCA rating. Or does it? I called Tayna to clarify which is being quoted. On the website the CCA being listed is the EN measurement method. If this same battery is measured using the SAE method then its CCA rating is 900.

Mine started to go last week, so I fitted a new Land Rover oem one. It is upgraded to 950A cranking.
Also you might like to know there is a window under the bracket which has a green, yellow (or orange) and black indicator to show you battery state. Mine was black on the old battery.

@countrywide,
Does your new battery have the indicator window? My old one did, but new one I fitted Saturday doesn't! Has design changed or have I got an LR reject?

I am not sure, I only noticed the one on the old battery after installed the new one. If there is it would have to be under the bracket.

dsd, don't fret, my new LR battery does not have a condition indicator. It looks like it has openable cells though so may be able to top up with distilled water if needed, or check electrolyte in each one with a hydrometer thingy. (aaah, the old ways are the best ) .... BTW the LR sticker on it also has 'Varta' on it, and 950CCA states measured the (SAE) method.
